    Hybrid Working

Elliott Wood works with likeminded people to engineer a better society.

We engineer for the common good – from making dramatic improvements to the life of a town or a city, through to nurturing a new generation of exceptional technical and creative thinkers.

Engineering is often about the unseen, but we aim to reveal the hidden opportunities in every structure, making it work harder and uncovering new assets for our clients.

With more than twenty years in practice, we continue to be curious. We are no ordinary engineers. We are activists for a new kind of engineering profession, in which technical and creative thinking are combined, and in which our craft is re-evaluated by clients and collaborators.

    The Role

We are looking for a talented, forward-thinking Senior Structural Engineer, with at least 3 years of UK post-graduate Structural Engineering experience, who wants to make a difference. Ideally you'll be working towards Chartership - and/or we'll offer you the support to do so. We'd love you to have worked with timber and composites.

You'll work on a diverse range of projects including high end commercial new build projects (such as Copyright Building), complex refurbishments of existing buildings (including Old War Office, The Ned and Bow Street Hotel), mass housing projects and masterplans (such as Harrington Place, Woking), school projects (including St John's, Leatherhead) as well as architecturally challenging private residential projects (such as Anna & Ava House and CorTen House).

Alongside this, you'll be part of a team who are always striving to do things better, not just technically but ethically, to positively impact the climate emergency. We are looking for like-minded individuals who can help us continue to deliver these amazing projects and have a positive impact on society.

    You will:

Assist in the delivery of client projects to time and budget.

Work on all aspects of design for various small and medium sized projects, with minimum supervision, and on larger projects, you'll spend time on selected technical issues.

Work closely with other teams within Elliott Wood including Sustainability.

For small and medium sized projects you'll deal with all aspects of design from inception through to completion of works on site with only limited supervision.

Involvement in appointment and fee issues, assisting senior members of the team as required

instruct technicians to carry out production information as and when required

Liaise with Architects, Clients and other external professionals whilst carrying out your duties.

Make periodic visits to site to monitor the works as they proceed. This will include attending site meetings and dealing with queries as they arise.

Training – you will be proactive in your approach to your own training and IPD/CPD within the Practice framework.

    About You

As mentioned, you'll ideally have at least 2-3 years experience within a similar organisation. and ideally be working towards Chartership

Your most recent role will have been at least one year in a UK engineering firm

You'll have managed smaller client projects and/or practice management issues

A strong academic history with a relevant degree or equivalent from a well-recognised University

Experienced in working in multi-disciplinary teams, including ideally, high-profile Architects

Good project management skills including an ability to manage time, resources, costs and communication within and outside the Practice.

Strong team working ability, able to influence, explain, and present a professional image at all times

    Open, positive and approachable attitude

Excellent communications skills, fluent in written and spoken English

    Why Elliott Wood

If, like us, you are interested in engineering a better society – and a better way of working – we would love to hear directly from you.

    We offer:

A nurturing, collaborative, creative environment, where hybrid working is also offered

Active encouragement and support to pursue further job related education or skills training

An extensive range of benefits from health insurance to gym cover, bonus, etc.

ICE Accredited Training Scheme to support you in your progression towards becoming chartered.
