    ROLE OVERVIEW //

    We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a professional, technically strong and engaging individual to join us as an Associate, in our London-based Employment Team.

    In addition to its highly regarded Pensions, Employment and Incentives practice, the firm has extensive Corporate, Financial Institutions, Commercial and Financing practices. It also has strong practices in Intellectual Property, Financial Regulation, Tax, Competition, Real Estate and Dispute Resolution.

    The firm is organised into groups that undertake a general spread of work, encouraging lawyers to work on an extensive range of matters. Much of the work spans the globe, with transactions involving our overseas offices as well as leading independent law firms in many other jurisdictions.

    Associates tend to work for partners in their own group, but you may also work for partners in other groups to provide a breadth of experience not only in types of work, but also in the different working practices and approach of different partners.

    The matters we work on are generally challenging and sophisticated. We do, however, aim to give associates as much responsibility and client contact as they are ready for.

    Group structure of our Pensions, Employment and Incentives practice

    The Employment Team forms part of our integrated Pensions, Employment and Incentives practice. Our group of 5 partners, 4 senior counsel, around 29 associates, 6 professional support lawyers, 7 trainees and 3 paralegals advise on employment, incentives and pensions. Many of our lawyers advise in two or more of these areas. This role is employment focussed, with scope to include some incentives work if this would be of interest.

    The group's work involves advising our substantial corporate client base on their most sensitive employment matters, including the appointment and termination of directors and senior employees; grievances, disciplinary matters and related investigations; whistle-blowing matters; and executive remuneration. We also advise on the employment aspects of some of the largest transactions such as takeovers, private M&A deals, IPOs, demergers, outsourcings and restructuring and insolvency scenarios.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //

    The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed.

    • Acting as the day-to-day contact for clients on a wide range of employment issues
    • Taking responsibility for the employment aspects of corporate transactions of all kinds
    • Working on both transactional and advisory matters
    • Delivering first line support to clients on some matters, and working within a larger team of colleagues, at a range of experience levels, on others
    • Drafting, reviewing and amending the legal and commercial aspects of documentation
    • Managing/supervising the work of others including trainees
    • Developing the practice by promoting the firm and its work – both to existing and potential clients

    CANDIDATE PROFILE //

    Candidates for this position must have:

    • Around 2-4 years' post qualification experience in employment law
    • A strong academic background
    • Experience in employment law transactional and advisory work (including high-profile and sensitive matters)
    • Could also have some incentives and/or share plans experience or interest in developing a practice in this area, but this is not essential
    • Credibility and confidence in dealing with clients independently

    • Resilience under pressure and an ability to manage multiple deadlines
    • Experience in running negotiations/meetings under minimal supervision
