    Are you a motivated B7 or B6 nurse with a keen interest in High Dependency Nursing care?

    There is an exciting opportunity for a senior, experienced nurse to work as a Band 7 Clinical Manager for 37.5 hours per week in a 6-month temporary role to manage our High Dependency Unit (HDU).

    Role responsibilities will involve:

    • Management of the HDU nursing team
    • Management of datix and the investigation of clinical incidents
    • Providing clinical supervision and holding supportive, learning discussions with colleagues
    • Sharing learning from incidents
    • Providing feedback to datix reporters with outcomes of datix incidents
    • Promoting psychological safety and a safety culture within HDU
    • To promote Duty of Candour
    • Managing and mitigation of HDU risks, including action planning
    • To support PCCU education team with sharing learning from clinical governance
    • To support quality improvement projects on HDU
    • Support the development of clinical guidelines and SOPs
    • To support the PCCU Lead Nurse and Band 7 PCCU team to improve patient safety and quality of care
    • Demonstrate collaborative and compassionate leadership

    Main duties of the job

    • To manage the specialist ward/unit, ensuring the quality of care provision to children, using unit protocols and Trust policies and guidelines.
    • To monitor workload and workforce resources on a day-to-date basis.
    • To be responsible for, and to carry out the assessment, planning and implementation of programmes of care providing support , guidance and leadership for junior members of staff in their care delivery.
    • To be responsible for the professional development of a team of staff identifying objectives to ensure individual action plans are met.

    Job responsibilities

    • To maintain confidentiality of information regarding children/ families at all times.
    • To communicate and liaise effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team, both verbally and in writing.
    • Provide and receive highly complex or sensitive information where there are barriers to understanding.
    • Promote and maintain good and effective communication with patients, relatives, and visitors.
    • Persuade patients and families to co-operate with treatment for their well-being, effectively deal with anxious relatives.
    • Ensure parents/carers and the child (when appropriate), have the opportunity to agree and/or negotiate care.
    • Communicate and liaise with other departments/ wards in the hospital to provide support and advice on resource management and professional nursing issues (as 524 bleep holder).
    • Communicate effectively with the Clinical Nurse Educator on the ward to manage the professional education of all staff and students within the team and develop nursing practice within evidence-based practice.

    Person Specification Qualifications / Training

    • RN Child (RSCN)
    • Diploma level post basic nursing qualification in relevant field
    • Degree in relevant subject

    Experience

    • Relevant or significant experience in paediatric nursing with at least two years at Band 6 or above
    • ENB 998 or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification
    • Recruitment and personnel management
    • Performing PDR
    • Budget management
    • Setting and auditing clinical standards
    • Utilisation of research in practice
    • Project management

    Knowledge

    • Health & Safety Safe Practices e.g. Lifting and Handling, Sharps, COSHH
    • Level three Safeguarding training
