Description
The senior staff nurse will work clinically on the 22 bedded trauma and Orthopaedic Ward.The post will also involve the Trauma Coordinator role which is rotated amongst all of the Band 6 staff on the T/O unit.
The successful candidate will cover the Band 7 role during periods of Annual Leave.The role involves providing clinical leadership and expertise in managing this complex group of patients , It involves working very closely with the Orthogeriatric , Orthopaedic and wider MDT.
The Band 6 is expected to have expert knowledge about T& O and elderly patients.Act as the clinical expert providing specialist knowledge and advice to Nurses, Therapist and junior medical staff working within the ward.
Manage patient care according to agreed policies and protocols, taking appropriate action, seeking advice from other members of the multi-disciplinary team as necessary.
This will include identification of risk (clinical, health, safety and security).Undertake when fully trained and competent to undertake advanced nursing practices relevant to the clinical area.
Ensure that nursing procedures are performed in accordance with UHBW NHS Foundation Trust policies and local standard operating procedures

Qualifications and TrainingCurrent NMC Registration
~1 st Degree in nursing or health related subject, willing to undertake/ working towards
~ Relevant accredited post registration qualification at Level 3
~ Willingness to work towards Masters level academic study
Appropriate post-registration experience in nursing, specialty
Experience of undertaking Research or Audit projects
Evidence of commitment to research based practice or evidence of project work undertaken
Ability to work alone or as part of a team
Innovative and participates with practice and policy change
Commitment to the development and provision of high quality nursing care
Awareness of current national changes in nursing / NHS
