    An exciting opportunity hasarisen for a Physiotherapist to join the Wakefield Adult Learning DisabilityCommunity Health Team.

    Ourwell-established team provides a service to the whole of the Wakefield area andconsists of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, learning disability nurses,occupational therapists, physiotherapist, speech & language therapists,dietician, and healthcare support staff. The team works together to supportadults with learning disabilities and their families/carers across Wakefield.

    TheTrust is committed to staff development and in-house training to enable theapplicant to fulfil the requirements of the role. There is a trust wide PhysioForum led by the professional lead which offers support and CPD opportunities.

    Main duties of the job

    We are looking for someone who demonstrate a positive attitude toworking with people with learning disabilities and a commitment to promoting ahigh quality of life for this client group.

    We provide specialistinterventions such as rebound therapy and hydrotherapy which thephysiotherapist will deliver. (Experience is desirable, although training willbe provided). The physiotherapist will provide specialist assessment, treatmentand management to adults with learning disabilities.

    Specific duties will involveassessing and treating service users with respiratory conditions, mobilityissues, moving and handling guidance and support adults with postural needs.Completing multifactorial falls assessment and prevention work forms a largepart of the role as does health promotion. The post involves attending MDTmeetings, reviews and working closely with care agencies, day services andsocial workers.

    The role involves takingresponsibility for supervising physiotherapy students and band 5 rotationalphysiotherapists.

    Job responsibilities

    JOB SUMMARY

    The post holder carries theresponsibility for a defined caseload working with adults in the Community teamfor people with Learning Disabilities.The caseload will include clients of all levels of ability as defined bythe team criteria. The post holder willserve as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team. The post holderwill promote a consistent multi-agency approach.

    The post holder will contribute to theleadership and development of the Specialist Learning Disability Health team inaccordance within local and national guidance

    The post holder will have the ability towork independently as specialist individual practitioner and make autonomousdecisions as required. Have goodclinical, management and leadership skills.

    The post holder will work with serviceusers on an individual and group basis as required to provide assessment andtreatment and therapeutic interventions in conjunction with the communitypathways including in reach to inpatient areas where required

    KEYRESULT AREAS:

    To work as anintegral member of the Specialist Learning disability health team.

    To carry out aspecialised clinical caseload undertaking specialist assessment, treatment andadvice to patients often with complex neurological presentations and formulatea clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment plan as an autonomous practitioner.

    To beresponsible for specialist advice to staff, patients and carers.

    Supervision ofstudents, assistant, and band 5 physiotherapist.

    No directbudget responsibility.

  • Evidence of post-graduate learning & development
  • To be willing to undertake post graduate training to further skills, knowledge and expertise

  • Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post.
  • A satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years (subject to the need to act with fairness and equality of opportunity, particularly where the sickness is related to a disability and/or pregnancy).
  • Qualifications

  • Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • Registration with Health Professions Council (HCPC)
  • A recognised qualification or appropriate evidence of suitable experience in teaching and assessing in clinical practice ( Supporting Learning in Practice (SLiP) or equivalent, or Accredited Clinical Educator (ACE) status).
  • Experience

  • Post registration experience including in learning disability
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience of risk assessment/moving and handling issues including the safe and correct use of all specialist equipment.
  • Desirable

  • Leadership / first line management experience
  • Experience of a range of learning disability settings
  • Supervision of staff and / or students
  • Involvement in audit/research/quality issues or training.

  • Specialist knowledge and application of physiotherapy assessments and interventions relevant to learning disability, including clinical reasoning, moving and handling, treatment skills and techniques in learning disability support and rehabilitation.
