    The Role

British Business Bank's UK Network team is part of the Market Engagement and Transformation team, looking to help businesses be aware and informed about their finance options. UKN was established in late 2018, to help the Bank identify and address geographical imbalances in SME access to finance across the UK; and provide it with a physical presence in each English regions and Devolved Nations (Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland). This opportunity comes at a time when the Bank's approach is to be customer centric across direct and indirect to SME routes to market, operating regionally and sub-regionally.

The purpose of this role is to be the UK Network's (UKN) "in the field" senior representative in the North of England and the Midlands; leading and line managing 5 field-based Senior Managers located within these regions; forming relationships with senior external financial intermediaries to help British Business Bank (BBB) develop Insights and a greater understanding of regional issues. You will be expected to work collaboratively across the Bank and with external stakeholders to identify Interventions where BBB could potentially shape and influence the regional access to finance eco-systems in these regions so small businesses are better informed and better prepared to access investment. You will take ownership of reporting the Impact of this activity.

You will operate on a mobile basis across the 5 Regions. The role will therefore necessitate travel with you spending time within each region every month, and likely overnight stays away from home. It will also be important for you to keep in touch with and abreast of developments across the UKN and BBB more generally, so regular visits to BBB main offices in Sheffield/London will also be required.

You will also be expected to deepen BBB's engagement with and influence in the ecosystems in each of the regions in the Midlands and the North of England, and work collaboratively with internal colleagues to support the supply of BBB products and services in these regions.

To be considered for this role you must have knowledge and/or experience of the SME access to finance ecosystem, and current policy matters pertinent to access to finance, in at least one of the Midlands and North of England regions.

You will have experience of building senior strategic relationships across a diverse range of external partners and stakeholders as well as experience of operating at CEO/Board level within the public or private sector.

You will also have a strong understanding of the SME finance sector: lending/investing to small business (spanning debt and equity finance) and SME access to finance issues and experience of leading a small flexible team (ideally experience of working within a geographically dispersed team).

Experience of working at a senior level (CEO, Chair, Board level) with local organisations responsible for economic growth and/or Mayoral Combined Authorities (or equivalent) would be advantageous as well as experience of identifying/assessing large amounts of and diverse sets of information and identifying aspects which are of key strategic or policy importance.

Pre-existing private sector SME finance networks in one or more of the Midlands and North of England would also be advantageous.
