    Locum Consultant Cardiologist

  • leading inpatient rounds on the cardiology ward on designated days, seeing patients and leading the multi-disciplinary board round
  • contributing to the in-reach service to the acute admissions unit and other wards, including seeing patients and discussing cases with trainee doctors
  • overseeing the care of patients in outpatient clinics and in the community, including seeing patients, arranging relevant investigations and instigating appropriate treatments
  • providing direct clinical supervision to trainee doctors and nurse specialists
  • providing advice and support for local general practitioners
  • working collaboratively with other consultants and members of the department, including providing reasonable cover for annual and study leave of colleague consultant cardiologists.

    • Sub-specialty responsibilities will include:

  • Managing patients in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory for complex device implantation
  • Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan supervision and reporting
  • Supervision of MRI for cardiac device patients.
  • Contributing to a team developing a radiotherapy VT ablation service

    • There is no on-call commitment.

    Personal Skills
    Essential

  • Medical Degree
  • Full GMC registration
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent

    • Desirable

  • Research qualification (PhD)

    • Professional training and experience
    Essential

  • Education, training and experience in all aspects of core cardiovascular medicine, including acute cardiac care
  • Evidence of subspecialty accreditation and experience in complex devices implantation/management
  • Evidence of subspecialty accreditation in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging
  • Previous experience working in the NHS

    • Desirable

  • Experience supporting MRI services for cardiac device patients
  • Experience in cardiac radioablation

    • Quality improvement

  • Evidence of experience of quality improvement within the NHS

    • Management
    Essential

  • Demonstrable team leadership qualities and staff management skills
  • Knowledge of NHS developments
  • Evidence of multidisciplinary team working

    • Desirable

  • Evidence of innovative approaches to healthcare
  • Evidence of leadership of and involvement with clinical governance

    • Teaching and research
    Essential

  • Evidence of experience in delivering high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching
  • Approval for funding of 1PA for research by UCL.

    • Desirable

  • Track record in EP and imaging research
  • High-impact publication record

    • Other

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, including ability to work well with a multi-disciplinary staff of all grades
  • Computer literacy

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and flexibility to work outside of usual job plan when required
