    Our team in Leeds, West Yorkshire are looking for an Assistant Systems and Compliance Accountant for a fixed term placement of 12 months, covering maternity leave within our professional finance team.

    This is a flexible, hybrid working role giving you the work life balance to work from home 2 (days) and from the office (3 days), the anticipated start date for this position is end May, early June.

    We are looking for a qualified or part-qualified finance professional, with proven accounting experience and a strong appreciation of the importance of financial controls and processes to business success.

    This is a role for a highly organised individual who can work collaboratively as part of a busy team and build strong relationships with wider stakeholders. You will be responsible for ensuring that a number of key ongoing compliance activities are performed consistently on time and with high level of accuracy. You will also get involved in a wide range of finance systems change activities and will need to enjoy understanding the underlying objectives of an activity, adapting actions appropriately to achieve objectives, and working collaboratively to find solutions.

    There is a core of routine work in the role which must be delivered consistently, but every day can be different. Prior knowledge of the systems is not required; training will be provided.

    The responsibilities of the role involve:

    • Being responsible for ensuring the relevant access to finance systems is in place; acting as gatekeeper to our 3rd party outsourced teams so they have the right access to deliver their roles
    • Performing reviews of access to finance systems ensuring compliance with audit requirements
    • Working with the Finance and Sales teams to maintain PCI compliance around handling of customer card transactions; ensuring customer issues and card processing challenges are managed quickly and effectively.
    • Supporting the wider systems and compliance team with delivery of change projects; this can involve working on defining change requirements and performing user acceptance testing.
    • Working with Sales Support and Credit Control teams to reduce the risk of fraudulent sales activities.
    • Working proactively with different teams on business change, acting as a ambassador for finance promoting the importance of compliance and controls
    • Farnell is a fast-moving business operating in a varied compliance environment; you will need to be confident in finding solutions that are both compliant and efficient

    Our successful candidate needs:

    • To be self-managing and organised
    • Have excellent attention to detail and process orientated
    • To be comfortable working with ambiguity and sometimes having to investigate to find answers rather than following rigid instructions
    • Practical approach and confident self-starter – ability to work independently and with a strong desire to be involved in a process of change and improvement
    • Excellent communication skills (verbally and written) with staff at all levels of the organisation, both within Finance and non-Finance Functions.
    • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
    • Studying towards an accounting qualification (preferred but not essential).
