    About Us

We are Ascent and we help our customers solve problems, elevate, and do existing things better. We are on a mission to help our customers connect data, software, and purpose to create extraordinary outcomes. You could say we are a digital transformation business.

We specialize in software product development, analytics, data science, IoT solutions, machine learning, DevOps optimization, and modernization of applications, data, and platforms.

We work with incredible clients in all types of industries such as smart home devices, space exploration, beer manufacturing, finance, ecology, and logistics. We work with some of the sharpest minds in the brightest businesses and we employ the sharpest minds too

    About Data Consulting at Ascent

Data Consulting at Ascent is focused on helping our customers achieve clarity around the role that data can play in helping them achieve their goals and objectives and working with them to map out the path to achieving outcomes and value through successful digital & data transformation.

    Your responsibilities

As a Principal Data Consultant, you will take a leading role in the delivery of our core services & the further development of Ascent's Data Consulting capability. Responsibilities will include:

    • Leading data consulting initiatives with customers, or leading data consulting aspects in a wider team delivering our core services, to build trusted relationships & help create clarity around their data opportunity.
    • Supporting presales conversations with the Commercial team, to validate ideas and assumptions and to recommend a possible route to delivery.
    • Working with the Marketing team to create thought leadership articles and opinionated content to drive engagement with new customers.
    • Being an internal advocate of a consultative approach to customer engagements and promoting data consulting across the company.

    The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced professional who has built a career in the world of data.

You will have deep knowledge of at least one data discipline (e.g., Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, Data Management, Data Governance, Data Science or Data Platform) but will have at least a high-level understanding of a wide range of data-related areas. You will understand how each of these areas contributes to creating business outcomes & value and driving change and will be able to focus customer discussions on these topics to ensure a business-driven approach to building data capability.

You will be comfortable discussing digital & data transformation at all levels of an organisation, and tailoring verbal and written communication to meet the needs and experience levels of different audiences.

You will understand the complexities of implementing data initiatives in a business, the barriers (technical and cultural) that may exist, and how to overcome them.

Ideally, you will have direct experience in a consulting role, or in an internal business-facing role where acting in a consultative manner is critical to your success. You will ideally also have direct experience of educating business leaders on the possibilities of data, helping to identify and prioritise data initiatives, or writing data strategies.

Above all, you will be passionate about the role that data can play in helping an organisation transform and relish the chance to work as part of a high-functioning area in a role that allows you to help customers achieve their business objectives.

    Skills and experience

    • Experience in at least one data discipline (e.g., Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, Data Management, Data Governance, Data Science or Data Platform) and a high-level understanding of a wide range of data-related areas.
    • A good understanding of the role data can play in generating value in a commercial organisation, and some of the pitfalls to avoid.
    • An understanding of the role of people, process and technology in effecting a successful transformation.
    • Excellent communication and consultative skills, with particular strength in "data storytelling".
    • Creative thinking skills, enabling you to work with customers to explore potential initiatives in an interactive and enthusiastic manner.
    • Aligned with Ascent Values and behaviours: Empathy, Energy and Audacity

    Working at Ascent
