    We have exciting opportunities for newly/recently qualified physiotherapists in our established and varied Intermediate Care Services in South East Essex.

    Community services are changing and developing at a rapid rate with the development of Frailty virtual wards and Community Stroke Services.


    Our Intermediate Care Physiotherapists, work as part of Multidisciplinary Teams, along-side Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Rehabilitation assistants, Nurses, Psychologists and Associate Practitioners.

    The Therapists have an opportunity to make a real difference to patient's functional abilities in their own home or community settings.

    Therapy is patient focused around individual goals rather than constraints of traditional discharge planning.


    There are opportunities to develop and specialise your clinical skills in orthopaedics, neuro/stroke rehabilitation, falls prevention and frailty patients, as well as developing leadership and managerial skills supporting the development of new and exciting services.

    Inpatient Stroke rehabilitation
    Frailty/complex neurology/orthopaedic rehabilitation beds
    Early support stroke rehabilitation
    Frailty virtual ward/admission avoidance
    Due to nature of post it is essential that applicants have a driving licence and access to vehicle.

    The post holder is part of the Intermediate Care Physiotherapy team, participating in Physiotherapy assessment, treatment and evaluation of patients in the defined area.

    The Intermediate Care services provide multidisciplinary rehabilitation services in patient's own home or our bed based rehabilitation unit - (Cumberlege Intermediate Care Centre).

    Patient rehabilitation is personalised to individual goals and needs and intervention usually occurs over a period of - 6 weeks.

    Cumberlege Intermediate Care Centre - Inpatient stroke rehabilitation and frailty rehabilitation
    Collaborative care team - unstable fractures and complex neurological rehabilitation and Re-ablement
    Frailty virtual ward - frailty rehabilitation


    The post holder will be expected to play an active role as a member of the Community Services and participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Physiotherapy intervention.

    Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.


    All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

    To be responsible for delivery of Physiotherapy within the area of general / complex medical conditions, prioritising clinical needs to provide an equitable and effective service.

    To be responsible for managing a caseload of patients with complex / variable needs, within a community setting.

    To apply appropriate understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice to patients, carers, members of the voluntary sector and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

    To seek advice from other relevant professionals to inform analysis and reasoning where appropriate, or when more complex needs or situations become apparent.

    To seek informal / formal support from senior colleagues to alleviate distressing or emotional situations.

    To identify and justify when a patient does not require Physiotherapy intervention, but needs other professional input and referral to other services.

    To develop a good knowledge and application of risk assessment, including carrying out intervention within the community.
    To adhere to the NHS policies and procedures, including Health & Safety, Manual Handling and work regulations.
    To have knowledge and experience of the Care Quality Commission and participate in assessments, as required.

    To accurately record all activity data and maintain clinical records, in a timely manner, via our electronic systems. This would include all patient and family/carer contacts as well as time spent on training and travel, etc.
    Professional / Service Development


    To respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of clients and key relationships, and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to those needs.

    To facilitate and encourage the sharing of best practice and regularly evaluate clinical interventions, in line with local and national research & development.

    To apply specialist skills and knowledge, in order to establish professional competence and fitness to practice as a Band 5 Physiotherapist.

    To engage actively in practice development, audit and research activities relevant to Physiotherapy and / or the service area, to promote evidence-based practice.

    To work effectively as a member of the team to support the planning and delivery of local & national service objectives, in line with departmental development strategies.

    To work with the management team and Senior Therapist to contribute to the delivery of the Trusts Development Plan for Intermediate Care Therapy, and the development of clinical governance and quality agenda.

    To be familiar with project developments / initiatives within the department and Trust.
    To adhere to the Trusts Uniform Policy.

    Training / Supervision & Appraisal


    To maintain up-to-date knowledge and evidence of best practice in relation to Physiotherapy Practice, through formal / informal training, meetings and supervision.

    To demonstrate ability to review and reflect on own practice and performance, through effective use of professional / operational supervision and appraisal, in line with local guidelines.

    To demonstrate ongoing personal development through participation in external / internal training courses, as agreed, for continual professional development and to meet appraisal objectives, providing feedback for courses attended.

    To participate in the induction and training of students and other staff, in line with the Trust Supervision & Appraisal Policy.


    Clinical Governance, Quality & Standards

    To apply and advise, as commensurate with band, on guidelines / legislation relating to Physiotherapy service provision.
    To comply with professional standards, including quality and Trust clinical governance policies and procedures.

    BSc Hons or recognised qualification in Physiotherapy
    Relevant Mentorship or supervision training

    Basic awareness of current legislation, government initiatives & current practice affecting Physiotherapy
    Literate in IT / Computer Skills
    Excellent oral / written communication skills based on fluency of the English Language
    Experience in Uk health or social care setting (including work experience, student placement or any paid position)

    Previous experience in an NHS community or rehabilitation setting
    Experience of working with patients with physical impairments / long-term conditions
    Personal qualities
    Ability to demonstrate efficient and effective time management organisation, planning and problem solving skills
    Access to car for work purposes
    Holds a current valid driving licence
