- Lead and champion elements of the software stack related to the user interface, user experience and graphical elements of the software control system, guiding & reviewing the work of other team members.
- Take ownership of designated areas relating to our existing software capabilities with an emphasis on improving usability and workflow for customers.
- As part of a wider team, explore and develop solutions to optimise the human and machine partnership, particularly through engagement with customers, end users and relevant standards information to gather feedback.
- Demonstrate and grow skills in Linux, C++ & QT for user interface design, and bring wider knowledge & experience of modern tools and frameworks (e.g. React) to evolve our front-end systems & architecture.
- Work with the sales team, product managers and customers to understand their requirements to scope and articulate the art-of-the-possible to shape proposals, estimates & plans for future projects.
- Use this knowledge to prioritise and trade-off options for development of a minimum viable products / prototypes / deliverables against longer term more general or flexible implementation options.
- Identify and advocate for improvements that can be made to the system to enhance functionality or streamline the work of developers.
- Work closely with the design and development teams worldwide.
- Computer Science degree or relevant qualification.
- Experience developing front-end user interfaces.
- Experience collaborating with customers & end users to gather feedback and improve usability.
- Programming experience in C++.
- Naturally motivated to discover, explore & learn how things work.
- Enthusiastic to engage in technical discussions to collectively propose & refine ideas.
- Knowledge of Linux development environment
- Knowledge of Robotics or Autonomous systems
- Knowledge of software related to interfacing with real hardware

The role: We are currently looking for a Software Engineer who specialises in User Interface to join our Software team based in Portchester.
The successful person will supporting the development of our core products particularly focused around enhancing the front-end user interface, working on the full software life cycle activities from concept through to test on vessels.
