    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic experienced physiotherapist to join our well-established team. The Team provides services to patients in the following area: sGeneral ITU, Head and Neck, Renal which includes exposure to head and neck surgery, urology, general surgery and major trauma patients. Cardiothoracic ITU including CCU, out of hospital cardiac arrests, cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology. Medical Respiratory including the Acute Medical Unit, A&E and Resus and Respiratory Wards including NIV and tracheostomy management. Post Critical Care rehabilitation (including outreach work and post-discharge follow up). Community respiratory liaison including respiratory outpatients domiciliary and pulmonary rehabilitation.

    The post holder will be expected to participate in the education and training of other MDT members, rotational staff and non-respiratory staff who cover night on call duties. We have close links with St Georges University and there are also opportunities to participate in the training of undergraduates as part of their core respiratory modules

    Main duties of the job

    This post is a specialist respiratory rotational post that may require you to cover any of the following areas: General ITU, Head and neck surgery, Urology, General surgery and major trauma patients.     The post holder is required to undertake a specialised respiratory assessment of own workload of patients, who may have complex presentations and from this assessment formulates a treatment plan and carries out this treatment as an autonomous practitioner.

    The post supervises and supports recently qualified physiotherapists/technical instructors/physiotherapy assistants/students and be involved in teaching MDT staff.

    We support post holders to undertake evidence-based projects, including recommendations for change in practice and may participate in departmental research and audit as appropriate.

    There is also the opportunity to deputise for physiotherapy team leaders in operational management

    Person Specification

    Qualifications and Training

    Essential

  • oDegree or equivalent in physiotherapy
  • oHPC registration
  • oEvidence of CPD, in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio, including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to the clinical field
  • Desirable

  • oPost graduate education completed or in progress.
  • oSpecial interest group membership
  • Experience

    Essential

  • oMinimum of 1 year's NHS experience (can include undergraduate experience).
  • oBroad range of experience at band 5 level in each of: ICU, medical, surgery, neurology, outpatients and elderly care
  • oParticipation in on-call and weekend respiratory rota
  • oExperience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and multidisciplinary team, including setting team goals
  • oAbility to form a sound prognosis and advise other members of the MDT
  • oMinimum 2 years post registration experience
  • Desirable

  • oPrevious experience at Band 6 level
  • oStudent supervision / clinical education
  • oExperience of the research process
  • oTeaching experience in in-service programmes
  • oCommittee membership, health and safety
  • oExperience of clinical education of undergraduate students

  • oFluent in written and oral English, and able to present complex information in a clear and logical manner
  • oGood assessment skills based on a sound clinical reasoning approach including the assessment of symptom behaviour, history taking and gathering of physical/objective testing and hypothesis formation
  • oAbility to work with multi/interdisciplinary team and set team goals
  • oAbility to organise, prioritise and delegate
  • oTo actively participate in staff training
  • oAbility to keep legible and accurate notes in English in the POMR system
