Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of General Manager at Leeds Childrens Hospital, leading the Childrens Clinical Service Unit, (CSU).
The General Manager is a key role within the CSU leadership Triumvirate Team alongside the Clinical Director and Head of Nursing. The Triumvirate Team is collectively accountable for the operational delivery of the CSU and will support the shaping of the strategic direction as we work towards delivering a new home for Leeds Childrens Hospital by 2030.
Leeds Childrens Hospital comprises of 28 specialties, ranging from surgical and medical to intensive care and neonatal services. We are one of only ten congenital cardiac centres in the UK and one of only three Paediatric Liver Centres. This a busy and fast-paced environment so the post holder must be adaptive to change and able to make rapid, balanced decisions to enable the best possible care for patients and support for staff.
We are looking for a senior manager with experience in managing and leading administrative and clinical teams across a diverse range of services. With a budget of £135m, the post holder will have significant experience of budgetary management and delivering large scale cost improvement programmes. The successful candidate will have the ambition and drive to develop and inspire the team to deliver the Leeds Childrens Hospital aim of, improving the health & well-being of children & young people by providing outstanding care
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will:
Provide strong leadership to a well-established and high-performing team.
Line manage a senior team including a Deputy General Manager, five Service Managers and five Business Managers.
Act as the CSU lead to deliver performance and financial objectives.
Provide leadership in delivering the CSUs priority areas such as: clinical service development, contracting, business cases, the Trusts 7 annual commitments and Leeds Improvement Method value streams.
Support the Head of Nursing and Clinical Director in deciding the strategic direction and management priorities for the CSU.
Champion patient-centred care ensuring that safety, quality and patient experience are embedded in everything we do.
Be an experienced operational manager with Masters level qualifications and experience in a demanding senior management role within a complex organisation.
Have a proven track record of leading change and delivering improvements, preferably across unplanned services. The post-holder will have a detailed working knowledge of NHS practices and procedures.

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The post holder will manage the CSU, a large and complex clinical service unit. Supporting the Clinical Director, the post holder will be responsible for the overall delivery of service, quality, financial and other targets as determined by the Executive Directors. In partnership with the Clinical Director and Head of Nursing, the post holder will be responsible for business, workforce and financial planning within his/her own unit, and will work closely with other managers and clinicians to support Trust-wide objectives.
Responsible for the management of identified clinical and/or related services within a CSU
Manage the performance of the CSU against key targets and measures
Ensure that resources are deployed effectively and that robust processes are in place to support the provision of efficient, high quality, services
Responsible for relevant capital programmes and associated budgets
Ensuring Staff, Patient & Public involvement in service development
Developing and sustaining capacity and capability in the CSU
Ensure that the clinical activities are appropriately recorded in order to maximise income opportunities related to service provision
Engaging on behalf of the CSU with internal and, where appropriate, external stakeholders; promoting partnerships and co-operative working
Ensure business continuity and risk management arrangements are in place in the CSU
Contribute to the delivery of divisional and Trust objectives
