    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a wte suitably qualified clinical psychologist to join the Specialist Weight Management Service due to current team member relocating.

    The successful post-holder will work within a multidisciplinary team which has input from dietitians, physiotherapy and a physician. The psychologist will be responsible for the provision and further development of individual and group psychological interventions for clients who have severe and complex obesity. The service is community-based and will involve working in a number of different health centres across the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea. You will form an integral part of the team and to ensure the needs of the service user are met. You may be required to deliver group interventions or clinics in the evening with the rest of the team. We are looking for a flexible, independent individual who is interested in service development.

    The postholder will be based within the Specialist Weight Management Service but clinical supervision will be provided by an experienced psychologist to ensure professional support and development is provided. We are keen to hear from applicants who have worked in health psychology, weight management or eating disorder services.

    The postholder will need to demonstrate knowledge of behaviour change models in addition to expertise in delivering evidence based treatments, in particular cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing.

    Main duties of the job

    To provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology service to clients of clinical health psychology, across all sectors of care; providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. To provide support and training to other HCP's.

    Job responsibilities

    To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to clinical health psychology based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complexdata from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care.

    To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a clients mental health problems and psychological aspects of physical morbidity, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.

    To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

    To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.Please see attached Job Description and Person Specification for full roles and responsibilities

    Education/Qualification

    Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
  • Specific research qualification in research methodology, over and above clinical qualification, at a minimum of masters level.
  • Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
