    Required to fill this replacement post within the Clinical Oncology Department at St Jamess University Hospital.

    This is a 10 PA appointment for a Clinical Oncology Consultant, with a special interest in Thyroid and Central Nervous System (CNS) cancers. The successful applicant should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register. Applicants should have established skills in Clinical Oncology. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share. If shortlisted, you will be required to give a 10-minute presentation on: Opportunities to improve and challenges in the radiotherapy pre-treatment patient pathway INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD VIA MS TEAMS: Friday 26 July 2024 Main duties of the job The post holder will work with one other consultant clinical oncologist, Dr Michael Flatley, to provide regional specialist non-surgical managementof patients with thyroid cancer. This will include the administration of radioactive iodine. They will also be responsible for the prescription and supervision of the use of other radionuclide therapies (including mIBG & radiolabelled octreotide)in patients with neuroendocrine tumours.The successful applicant will be supported in obtaining an ARSAC licence. The post holder will attend a regional thyroid MDT every other week as well as weekly clinics and supervision of in-patients undergoing radionuclide therapy. They will also treat patients requiring radiotherapy for benign thyroid eye disease. Furthermore, the post holder will also work with the CNS Clinical Oncology team which currently has 4 substantive consultants (Dr Hatfield, Dr Flatley, Professor Short and Dr Murray). The post-holder will provide CNS clinical oncology services in both outpatient and ward settings. The post-holder will be responsible for planning and supervising radiotherapy as well as prescribing and being responsible for the delivery of systemic therapy. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the teaching and education programme, as well as research. There will also be the opportunity to gain exposure and develop expertise in the use of Gamma Knife.     Job responsibilities 2.1 To deliver care to patients with CNS and Thyroid cancers at St Jamess University Teaching Hospital including: Out-patient clinics Care of in-patients Responsibility for the delivery of radiotherapy Responsibility for the delivery of systemic therapy Responsibility for the prescription and supervision of radionuclide therapies Contribute to specialist MDT meetings 2.2 To link with consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Leeds Cancer Centre and across the Yorkshire Cancer Network. To work with consultant colleagues in all specialties across the Trust to coordinate & deliver care for patients with CNS and thyroid cancers. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department. 2.3 To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Leeds Cancer Centre. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programmes in the department. 2.4 To work with colleagues in clinical oncology to deliver acute on call (currently 1 in 26) for clinical oncology. This includes attendance at hand-over, twice daily ward-rounds to review and manage patients admitted acutely and provide out-of-hours cover and advice to the resident on-call team.     Qualifications
    Essential
    • FRCR or equivalent qualification.
    • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice. YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM.
    • Eligibility to work in the UK.
    • Is up to date and fit to practise safely.

    Desirable

    • Relevant higher degree.

    Research, Teaching, Audit & Management
    Essential

    • Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
    • Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
    • Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
    • Understanding of current issues in the NHS.

    Desirable

    • Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
    • Attendance at recognised management course.

    • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Clinical Oncology.
    • Specifically, must demonstrate higher training in managing patients with CNS and thyroid cancers. Must have experience of delivering systemic therapy.
    • Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

    Desirable

    • Supervising the delivery of radionuclide therapies.
