This is a 10 PA appointmentfor a Clinical Oncology Consultant, with a special interest in Thyroid and CentralNervous System (CNS) cancers.
Thesuccessful applicant should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should be includedon the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview,if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.
Applicants should have establishedskills in Clinical Oncology. A strong commitment to undergraduate andpostgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicantswho wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will workwith one other consultant clinical oncologist, Dr Michael Flatley, to provideregional specialist non-surgical managementof patients with thyroid cancer.This will include the administration of radioactive iodine. They will also beresponsible for the prescription and supervision of the use of otherradionuclide therapies (including mIBG & radiolabelled octreotide)inpatients with neuroendocrine successful applicant will besupported in obtaining an ARSAC licence. The post holder will attend a regionalthyroid MDT every other week as well as weekly clinics and supervision ofin-patients undergoing radionuclide therapy. They will also treat patientsrequiring radiotherapy for benign thyroid eye disease.
Furthermore, the postholder will also work with the CNS Clinical Oncology team which currently has 4substantive consultants (Dr Hatfield, Dr Flatley, Professor Short and DrMurray). The post-holder will provide CNS clinical oncology services in bothoutpatient and ward settings. The post-holder will be responsible for planningand supervising radiotherapy as well as prescribing and being responsible forthe delivery of systemic therapy. There will also be opportunities tocontribute to the teaching and education programme, as well as research. Therewill also be the opportunity to gain exposure and develop expertise in the useof Gamma Knife.

To deliver care to patients with CNS and Thyroid cancers at StJamess University Teaching Hospital including:
Out-patient clinics
Care of in-patients
Responsibility for thedelivery of radiotherapy

Contribute to specialist MDTmeetings
To link with consultantcolleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Leeds CancerCentre and across the Yorkshire Cancer Network. To work with consultantcolleagues in all specialties across the Trust to coordinate & deliver carefor patients with CNS and thyroid cancers. The post holder will be encouragedto facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on goingin the department.
To contribute to research, teaching andnew developments within the Leeds Cancer Centre. The post holder will beencouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical researchprogrammes in the department.
To work with colleagues in clinicaloncology to deliver acute on call (currently 1 in 26) for clinical oncology. Thisincludes attendance at hand-over, twice daily ward-rounds to review and managepatients admitted acutely and provide out-of-hours cover and advice to theresident on-call team.
