Research Fellow in Evidence Synthesis - York, United Kingdom - University of York

    Default job background
    Full time, Permanent
    Description

    Role Description

The Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) at the University of York is recruiting two motivated Grade 6 Research Fellows and an experienced Grade 7 Research Fellow to contribute to a range of evidence synthesis projects.

CRD is an academic research department that specialises in and is at the forefront of evidence synthesis, achieving a top ten place in REF21. Our systematic reviews and other evidence synthesis projects span a broad range of health and public health areas. They provide best evidence to inform policy and practice decisions and are underpinned by a programme of methodological development and commitment to knowledge exchange.

Following establishment of a new NIHR Evidence Synthesis Group and subsequent expansion of this research programme, we have created several additional posts and are seeking motivated early career researchers to join our growing team.

CRD is a friendly and supportive workplace that is part of a wider health and social care research community within the University of York. We embrace hybrid and flexible working patterns, enabling staff to work partly remotely (within the UK) according to project needs and their preferences. We value diversity, and are committed to equality of opportunity and fostering an inclusive culture where we can all be ourselves.

The people appointed will work on evidence synthesis projects across CRD research programmes. This may include working on NIHR Evidence Synthesis Group projects and those commissioned under our NIHR Policy Reviews Facility, to provide policymakers with research evidence and facilitate its use in their decision-making. It may also include health technology assessment (HTA) projects commissioned under our NIHR Technology Assessment Reviews (TAR) programme, which inform National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) decisions about which new drugs and technologies are approved for use in the NHS. Those appointed will also have the opportunity to contribute to developing methods and to funding applications.

    Required skills, experience & qualifications

Applications are welcome from candidates with a Masters level qualification in a health science, social science or applied statistical subject and a relevant PhD or equivalent research experience. Candidates for both Grade 6 and Grade 7 positions should have experience of conducting systematic reviews and other evidence syntheses. They must be able to work collaboratively as part of a team, and an ability to engage with stakeholders is particularly important.

Applicants for the Grade 7 position should additionally have a strong track-record of completing and publishing evidence synthesis projects and a growing national reputation. They should have an evidenced ability to generate research ideas e.g. through grant applications.

Further training and career development will be supported.

This is a full-time position. Part-time applications will be considered provided that this is at least 60% of a whole time equivalent (3 days per week).

We welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates and particularly encourage applications from people who identify as being from the Black African and Caribbean Heritage community, Asian or other ethnic background that is underrepresented at the University.

    Interview date: May 2024
