We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety professional to join the diverse and innovative world of Legal & General Capital (LGC). LGC, and the various building and housing subsidiaries that sit within it, invests in the real economy, supports welfare reforms, leads technical innovation, and helps to address the issues surrounding climate change. As Head of Health & Safety, you'll make a tangible difference to the Group, acting as the strategic Environment, Health & Safety lead and ensuring that the division protects the health and safety of its employees at all times.

What you'll be doing

This is a broad, varied role, but we see these as some of the key elements:
Act as the competent person for Legal & General Capital in relation to Regulation 7 of the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations to ensure that we are compliant/working within legislation
Develop LGC's Environment, Health & Safety Framework and provide management information and assurance to the LGC Operational Risk and Risk Committees of compliance with this framework.
Provide assurance to the Health & Safety Committee and the Executive Risk Committee that the H&S Framework is operating effectively.
Develop and embed the H&S strategy to enable the business division and subsidiaries to continually meet the highest standard.
Provide incident investigation oversight to ensure lessons are learnt and implemented, driving continuous improvement and capabilities within the team
Review new investment opportunities against LGC's risk appetite for health and safety and the LGC EHS Framework for higher risk investments. Advise investment leads on health and safety standards and best practices as required.
Work closely with the divisional and subsidiary health & safety leads to share best practice and lessons. Drive and embed a strong culture of health and safety focus and awareness across the business.
To take the lead in all matters relating to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group's policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance

What we're looking for

Qualifications:

NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or equivalent) or working towards

Knowledge:

Excellent communicator/ articulate
Selfmotivated
Strategic thinker
Industry networker

Experience:

Experience of working in a similar role with a construction and property bias
Experience of large redevelopment schemes
Experience of inhouse corporate health and safety management
Working knowledge of construction health and safety and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
Experience of working with and presenting to Company Boards and Senior Exec teams

Leadership:

Ability to influence senior leaders
