    Contract :

    Hours :
    Full time

We are seeking a highly experienced and enthusiastic technical Advisor to help supervise and deliver our existing programmes and to influence our technical direction and commercial growth in the Materials Performance and Characterisation (MPC) Section of the Materials Performance and Integrity (MPI) Group, based in Great Abington, Cambridge.

The MPC Section supports a global client base via its world-class expertise in materials testing and characterisation, degradation and failure mechanisms, microstructure property relationships, welding metallurgy and corrosion engineering, combined with broad knowledge of issues affecting materials in industrial service.

Projects range from rapid turn-round failure investigations to long-term R&D programmes for individual companies, consortia of companies and governmental programmes in oil & gas, power generation, heavy engineering and transport sectors.

This role requires an in-depth experience and knowledge of metallic materials and welding to ensure proposals are correctly aligned with the clients' needs, combined with technical expertise and an ability to deliver high-quality work to time and budget.

The role also expects evidence of international technology leadership, and a track record of solving industrial challenges impartially and in the most cost-effective way, through advice, consultancy or innovation.

Key areas include advanced materials characterisation, failure investigation, corrosion and damage analysis (including but not limited to hydrogen embrittlement of high-performance alloys), welding, materials manufacturing processes (including advanced processes, such as additive manufacturing), process-microstructure-performance relationship, analysis of in-service performance and properties, relating to the use and operation of ferritic steels and corrosion resistant alloys.

Success in your application will require excellent report/proposal writing and communication skills, enabling you to present ideas and information to customers and colleagues effectively.

You will have at minimum an MSc in metallurgy, corrosion, materials science or related discipline; having a PhD in a materials discipline would be highly beneficial.

You will have solid knowledge of testing in harsh environments (e.g. hydrogen charging-, CO2 containing-, and sour environments) and advanced characterisation of metallic materials, and hands-on experience in scanning electron microscopy, and interpretation of its results; and will be recognised as experts with a track record of high quality, industry-relevant research

    Travel :

This position will require travel on a short-term basis within the UK and overseas according to the demands of the work.
