    Job summary

    We are looking to recruit committed, compassionate & dynamic students from Mental Health, Child or Learning Disability degree nursing programmes to work as Band 5 Registrants. Students from Occupational Therapy degree programmes are also eligible to apply where considering a mental health practitioner role.

    We are seeking students currently on (or recently completed) one of the above programmes who have excellent organisational & interpersonal skills, who are enthusiastic, motivated & who thrive on innovation & change to put our service users & their families at the heart of the care provided. Upon successful interview, you will be offered a post within one of our inpatient or community mental health services. Preferred areas of practice will be discussed at interview & allocated in line with our workforce vacancies & requirements.

    As band 5 registrants, successful candidates will work within the NMC scope of practice and will include core clinical duties & management of patient care using evidence based principles in line with national and organisational policy and guidelines.

    In post, you will be supported in practice following our quality assessed preceptorship programme. There is the option to work as a band 3 within your allocated team/service whilst waiting for NMC/HCPC PIN number, converting to band 5 once PIN confirmed.

    Interviews will be held on either Jan 29th, Feb 1st or 2nd 2024. The exact date of the interview will be confirmed following the application closing date.

    Main duties of the job

    Responsible for assessing, planning, evaluating andimplementing care which may be complex, sensitive and unpredictable.

    To undertake and to develop all nursing skills andcompetencies, updating as required for their role, to enhance the skill mix ofthe nursing team ensuring that the ever-changing health needs of patients and service users aremet.

    Work always within the guidelines of theNMC code and organisational policies.

    Support and supervision of students and junior staff.

    Job responsibilities

    Provide holistic, evidence based / best practice care to patients in accordance

    with national and organisational policies/procedures and individual care plans.

    Utilise nursing skills to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate patient care

    Undertake comprehensive risk assessments for all situations associated with the safety and care of self and others.

    Actively participate in multi-disciplinary reviews, referrals, discharge planning, and case conferences to support or manage patient care.

    Maintain accurate, confidential records through IT based systems, which must be maintained in line with policy and Government directives.

    Be an active member of the multidisciplinary team taking appropriate responsibility for the implementation of decisions made by the team.

    Undertake health promotion as requested to all age groups and contribute to planned health promotion activities.

    Awareness of organisational, professional and national developments within healthcare.

    Follow and comply with all policies, Patient Group Directives, standards and Quality Assurance initiatives.

    Be conversant with the vulnerable adult and child protection policy.

    Always maintain confidentiality in respect to the patient.

    Be responsible for own time management caseload demands balancing patient needs with the administrative aspect of the role.

    Participate in all aspects of clinical governance, audits and effective and safe use of resources and equipment.

    Actively participate in line management and annual appraisal with senior and junior members of staff.

    In the absence of Senior Nurse, safely delegate care whilst being aware of work pressures; offer support to colleagues.

    Act as a role model for all staff and students demonstrating clinical skills and high standards of practice and professional conduct.

    Actively participate in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives

    Preserve confidentiality and comply with of the Data Protection Act, Access to Health Records and Consent for Treatment.

    Work flexibly in order to meet the needs of the patient/service.

    Communication:

    Report and record all incidents and near misses relating to health, safety, security, fire, physical violence, aggression and verbal abuse.

    Develop and maintain effective communication networks with other services, patients, relatives and carers.

    Provide and receive complex, sensitive and confidential information and

    overcome potential barriers to communication, such as language and disability.

    Participate in meetings such as case conferences, best interest meetings

    To assume responsibility as delegated by a senior member of staff.

    To participate in coordinator/duty rota as required.

    To liaise effectively with other areas and services.

    Share knowledge and information to promote a cohesive team.

    Professional:

    Upholds the NMC Code.

    Maintain competence and ensure clinical practice is evidence-based.

    Participate in annual appraisal where the job description will be reviewed and objectives set in personal development plan.

    Maintain professional portfolio for NMC revalidation purposes.

    Education & Training:

    Maintain own professional expertise by attending meetings, study days and in-service training and learn new specialist skills required for service development.

    Participate in reflective practice & clinical supervision.

    Assess, teach, support, and supervise colleagues and all learners.

    Ensure personal mandatory training is up-to-date.
