Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine - Prescot, United Kingdom - Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
Description
Job Details
Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust are looking to appoint a substantive Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. This is a part time, 6 PA post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire based at Whiston Hospital Emergency Department.
The Emergency Department prides itself on delivering high-quality, up-to-date clinical care and has a comprehensive governance, audit and educational programme. As a teaching hospital, the department delivers clinical education to Liverpool University medical students and is also affiliated with the School of Emergency Medicine, providing training to doctors of all grades. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and educational supervision and be supported in developing interests relevant to the speciality.
Whiston is the busiest Emergency Department in Cheshire and Merseyside, with over 115,000 new attendances per annum. It has a separate newly re-designed and purpose-built paediatric emergency unit, seeing approximately 25,000 children per year. This is staffed by paediatric-trained emergency nurses and doctors allocated from the general ED rota.
Interviews will take place on Thursday 7th March, 2024
Main duties of the job
The Paediatric Emergency Department is purpose built and opened in October 2023. The facility is state of the art and draws upon the latest thinking on modern emergency care. There are 2 paediatric resuscitation bays, a 5 bedded area that includes 2 high dependency cubicles and a separate CAMHS cubicle, a 6 bedded ambulatory assessment area and an 8 bed observation area.
There is immediate access to all imaging modalities, including CT and MR scanning, and laboratory services, both near patient and laboratory based. These services are available 24 hours daily.
The Trust provides a wide range of major medical and surgical specialties including Critical Care services.
This post is for 6 PAs per week. 75% DCC, 25% SPA
There will be one evening shift per week, starting at 4pm and finishing at midnight (2.5PAs)
The other 2PAs will be clinical sessions within the paediatric department, flexibly agreed between you and the rota coordinator.
There is no on-call commitment.
Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine UK (or equivalent qualifications), to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview. CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation of successful application.
