- Manage the normal day to day operation of Colas services in a safe and proper manner in accordance with Safety Certificate, railway Group Standards and Colas requirements via the company standards and training provided.
- Taking prompt and appropriate action to ensure safety of people and equipment and infrastructure in normal operating conditions and during out of course situations as detailed in company standards.
- Ensuring the control team minimise and manage the effects of operational incidents, cancellations, lateness.
- To manage a team of Freight Operations Controllers including timesheets, annual leave requests, Freight Roster and all other responsibilities of managing a team.
- Facilitate Daily Freight Management Meeting
- Regular and consistent daily / weekly liaison with Freight Management, Loco Planning, Freight Operations, Engineering, Planning & Rostering and Train Planning to ensure collaboration.
- To assist Freight Control Desks.
- To issue guidance and support to Freight Controllers and assist in Safety Critical decision making.
- To manage Accidents and Incidents including the escalation and associated paperwork.
- Performance Monitoring and TRUST Delay Attribution and associated reporting.
- Face to Face Team / Safety Briefs
- Induction and training of New Control Staff.
- To complete Assessments and Skills Needs Analysis on Freight Control Staff
- To ensure that all processes, procedures and general day to day duties are being followed and carried out at all times.
- Manage all aspects of Freight Control personnel including, but not limited to performance, disciplinaries, training, timesheets, annual Leave, and absences.
- Create new processes and procedures for Freight Control when required.
- Attendance of Freight Planning and Freight Review Meetings
- Attendance of handover meetings from rostering team
- Represent Colas in industry control meetings and exercises as necessary to enhance the reputation and protect the interests of the business. Behavioural Competencies

- Experience of Railway Operations
- Good Railway geographical knowledge
- Experience and knowledge of the Rail Freight industry
- Accomplished Control experience and knowledge.
- The ability to think outside the box, strong decision-making skills.
- Good negotiation skills and able to resolve problems.
- Must have Leadership and Management qualities.
