Your Role

Overview

This role is an exciting opportunity for a Site Supervisor to take on a pivotal position within our growing Projects team, contributing to the management of site construction activities on our main site Pepperness, located in Kent. You will play a crucial role in ensuring we build the optimal vertical farm, which we can scale into multiple sites in future. You will get to work with cutting edge technology and in a culture that is pioneering and innovative in what we do. There will be ample opportunity for you to get involved in multidisciplinary scopes and work cross functionally with the wider team.

The Role requires an experienced Construction Supervisor competent in supervision of multidiscipline Construction, who will represent GrowUps interests in areas of safety, quality and compliance throughout project delivery. Ensuring that coordination of Construction activities adheres to the programme and meets key commissioning and handover dates. The Construction Supervisor is to support the Senior Construction Manager, Construction Manager to maintain the high standards required in Safety and Quality. Supporting the Project Managers to deliver within budget by actively managing the quality of the site works to minimising rework and find cost effective solutions to Construction issues.

The programme has been broken down into main areas, these areas are spread between several Project Managers, the Construction Supervisor role will be across all of these areas:

• Building Civils & Structure
• Utilities & Infrastructure
• Building Fitout
• Processing Plant
• Growing Plant

The role will focus on construction but will require input across the full project life cycle, joining the team in the coming months will see the current phase of the project in construction and the future phase moving through design and procurement. The role will cover Construction Supervision and Construction input into both current and future project stages, covering the below stages:

• Design
• Site Enabling Works
• Construction Works including Commissioning
• Live Plant - Modifications and Upgrades

There are no direct reports for this role, however you will be responsible for management of suppliers covering multiple packages of work.

In this role you will be a pivotal member in the team supporting multiple projects, the wider team consists of:

• Project Managers
• Lead Engineer – Design & Procurement (M&E)
• Project Administrator
• Project Engineers
• Commissioning Engineer
• Construction Management Team – Senior Manager, Manager, Supervisor
• Ongoing External Planning Support & Drafting Support

Additional specialist services are supported as required.

Responsibilities

• A key part of the role is compliance to CDM Regulations the below list of deliverables and duties will include items focused on this and items beyond this focus. The below list is not exhaustive.
• Supervision of multiple vendors ensuring works are completed safely, to the right quality and to programme.
• Supervision of site works to ensure agreed methods are followed, including site rules.
• Monitoring site progress, identifying blockers and finding solutions
• Completing inductions, RAMS review, permit control, audits
• Completing setting to work and site checks on completed works.
• Maintaining excellent communication to all involved parties.
• Collaborate with engineers and the operations teams in the organisation of site works.
• Interface and liaison with site operational teams
• Supervision of critical interfaces where work impacts operations for example any works within a High Care or Low Risk area.
• Completion of punch list walkdowns inspecting quality of works is as required.
• Review of engineering documentation and checks to 'As-built' status.

Supporting the Senior Construction Manager and Construction Manager in:

• Managing the Safe System of Work
• Daily briefings.
• Incident investigation and close of out identified actions.
• Risk identification and mitigation.
• Management of temporary facilities provided to site contractors
• Construction input into design and planning and management of the design risk register.
• Maintaining the H&S file including required registers.
• Handover of H&S file and other key documents to Client/ Operations as required.
• Identifying and completing process and procedural improvements.
• Supporting constant improvement within the team and development of team members.
• Input into monthly reports and management of H&S performance trackers
• Supporting the Project Managers in producing project execution plans, strategies and cost estimates for different options.
• Supporting Project Managers in supplier selection and pre-qualification checks
• Input into post project reviews on completed projects.

Job Role Factors

• This role currently has single site responsibility, but you may be required to work from other sites in the future.
• Occasional travel to suppliers/contractors for meetings, factory inspections and audits.
• Although significant proportion of time will be office based and involve working with PC's, there will be a very regular requirement to be out on the work site. Therefore, some physical activity will be required from time to time (climbing ladders to access platforms for example).

Key Competencies

• Completion of Engineering Apprenticeship in Electrical or Mechanical disciplines
• Completion of HNC Engineering based subject or equivalent experience and other relevant qualifications.
• Required to have circa 5-7 years relevant industry experience with circa 3 of those years within a project or supervisor role.
• Experienced in delivery of projects in a comparable industry with Value of + £10 million.
• IT Literate. Able to use full MS Office Suite including MS Project Planner.
• Able to follow engineering design drawings.

Personal Skills

• You've got sound understanding of the characteristics of projects over a significant portion of the project lifecycle.
• You've got experience of project engineering for medium to large sized general construction projects, fitout or process contracts.
• You've got an ability to think logically for day-to-day tasks and time management, and you can find solutions for issues facing design, project, programme, and cost.
• You bring good judgement and integrity to every project you work on – you can determine the right course of action with some degree of decision-making latitude.
• You have excellent communication skills.
• You're passionate about setting challenging personal goals and doing everything to the best of your ability.
• You're enthusiastic, self-motivated and determined to succeed.
• You're open to and curious about ideas and thinking from both inside and outside the organisation.
