- lead and line manage a team to further develop the operational environment and process in support of activities across the Business and Enterprise Directorate, including business development, commercialisation, and entrepreneurship.
- ensure specialised advice is provided to the business development function and to academic colleagues across the University to support engagement with research funding opportunities and the undertaking of knowledge exchange activity to deliver impact from the University's research endeavour.
- Lead on development of the Directorate's operational environment and process to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment with its strategic priorities.
- Oversee the day-to-day activities of the Directorate's operational environment.
- Manage direct reports, ensuring they have the necessary skills and training to support the Directorate's objectives.
- Conduct performance reviews of direct reports.
- Support the growth of a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the operations team.
- Ensure that the Directorate's facilities are maintained to a high standard and are conducive to innovation and collaboration.
- In collaboration with the Directorate's CRM & Project Analyst, ensure that the Directorate has a robust risk management and governance environment, including with respect to data protection, business continuity and business critical software technologies.
- Approve and monitor expenditure ensuring spend is aligned with established budgets.
- Identify opportunities for cost-saving and process optimization.
- Ensure a safe and compliant operational environment, aligned with University health and safety policies and procedures.
- Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external partners in support of operational excellence.
- Support the Business Development team and academic colleagues in the preparation and submission of project funding applications, including project costings – this will require the post-holder to have, or develop, an understanding of full economic costing, different grant submission platforms and terms and conditions of award.
- Ensure all applications and proposals for external project funding comply with internal approval processes and procedures.
- Support an effective working interface between the Business and Enterprise Directorate and the University's Research Engagement Directorate, including Legal and the post-award Research Grants function.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date funding award records within the software systems operated by the Business and Enterprise Directorate, including Salesforce and Worktribe, ensuring efficient information exchange and data management.
- Respond to inbound enquiries or route them to appropriate members of the Business Development Team.
- Stay abreast of national and international research grants, awards, and funding schemes where industry is a partner.
- Working in collaboration with Business Development colleagues, conduct searches to identify potential new partners, funding opportunities and emerging industry trends relevant to the Directorate's focus areas.
- Attend conferences, funding agency meetings and networking events in support of developing the role.
- Educated to first degree level or equivalent experience gained in the workplace.
- Experience of working within a similar environment as detailed above.
- Experience of working closely with stakeholders across multiple levels within an organisation.
- Excellent interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills and ability to understand and communicate complex issues effectively.
- Evidence of leading on new developments and improvement actions.
- High level organisational skills with the ability to prioritise major developments and to function effectively in a pressured environment

Purpose of Role
The role of Business Operations Executive is essential to help the University achieve its strategic objectives of diversifying funding sources and increasing its industrial income, increasing the number and quality of strategic partnerships underpinning this income and to deliver on the University Knowledge Exchange commitments within the SFC University Innovation Fund, Interface, Innovate UK KTP programme and other key funds.
Working in close collaboration with the Business Operations Manager, the Business Operations Executive will:
