An opportunity has arisen for Project Engineer – Structural Systems to join Vehicle Integration team in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment. Reporting to the Principal Engineer for Structural Systems, this is a key role where the successful individual will be responsible for the development and delivery of structural structures for high performance applications in a range of sectors, primarily automotive and heavy industry.

Job role:

Preparing and reviewing system requirements documents and translating those into preliminary designs and test parameters.
Creating parts and system-level specification documents and monitoring system costs and timing.
Guide development activities including materials selection and trade-off studies (cost, time, performances)
Influence Structural System Architecture selection adopting a holistic systems-engineering approach.
Providing Target Decomposition, identifying design verification methods, developing DFMEA and DVP.
Input with both simulation and physical testing, including input criteria and test procedures, to ensure validation of requirements and failure modes is realised.
Understanding manufacturing and quality processes and systems that confirm components and assemblies meet regulatory/certification for volume production.
Apply engineering fundamentals to problems (ability to carry out hand calculations or theoretical analysis of composite structures)
Generate and report system progress/metrics to relevant stakeholders through project gateways and cadence reviews.
Proactively assisting in stakeholder facing meetings and site visits on assigned remit and ability to escalate queries when required, by using prior experience and engineering judgment.
Guide and support the work provided by other departments within WAE or external suppliers/subcontractors.
Supports onboarding of industrial placement and graduate engineers with informal mentor support.

You'll have:

Experience in the automotive, motorsport, off-highway, or aerospace industries.
Evidence of CPD such as chartership, networking events, attending conferences, or gaining engineering awards.
An engineering qualification (e.g. Degree) in mechanical, automotive, electrical or aerospace engineering.
Strong knowledge of mechanical structured, composite materials, advanced materials, and manufacturing methods.
Working knowledge of Polarion, JIRA, 3D CAD and PML software, ideally NX and Team Center would be advantageous.
Knowledge of mechanical system components on a battery or vehicle programme would be advantageous.
