    Job summary

    Clinical Support Services Alliance (CSSA) have a fantastic opportunity for Experienced Registered nurses, to join our rapidly expanding Outpatient, Pre-assessment team.

    You will be working as a bank nurse within a wider clinical team to provide a high standard of efficient, individualised patient care, the rate of pay is highly attractive and you will be paid per hour worked. You must be a strong communicator with exceptional standards for delivering a quality, holistic customer service. Adhering to all of Clinical Support Services Alliance policies and procedures to ensure the best possible clinical outcomes for patients.

    Main duties of the job

  • To manage the Outpatient/Pre-assessment departments to meet the requirements of high-quality patient care, using advanced specific clinical knowledge and skills ensuring care activities comply with CSSA policies and procedures and are adhere too by all members of the Outpatient/Pre-assessment team.
  • Provide specialist clinical advice to the Outpatient/Pre-assessment team.
  • Assess, develop, and implement pathways of care within the unit in conjunction with other health care professionals, ensuring optimum patient flow through the department.
  • Co-ordinate and supervise the development and implementation of evidence-based care within the unit. Ensuring all care and treatment provided is evidence based.
  • Ensure that practice within the unit conforms to the NMC Code of Professional Practice.
  • To ensure comprehensive records are maintained in respect of all patients.
  • To ensure incidents are managed appropriately and reported to the Governance Manager and investigated in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure that audits are carried out on a regular basis to ensure good practice
  • Observe Codes of Professional Conduct as laid down by the Nursing Midwifery Council.
  • Lead team meetings/briefs and actively involve members of the team to contribute with innovative ideas on how the planning and organisation of work can improve the patient pathway.

    Offering continuity of care via supplying an end-to-end service which covers outpatient, surgical and follow up services to patients, often incorporating locally based clinicians.

    Job responsibilities

    ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    CLINICAL

    Working autonomously. Completes testing as per NICE guidelines (NG45), interprets and manages the results, and where appropriate initiates relevant referrals to appropriate staff.

    Completes venepuncture, electrocardiogram, lung function and any other test necessary.

    Identifies patients with specific health issues and undertakes relevant risk scoring where indicated and manages the results.

    Follows up on outcomes of referrals to ensure fitness to proceed.

    Provides information about any specific outpatient or pre-operative instructions, intraoperative care, and discharge.

    Identifies cultural requirements, communication or other specialist health or social needs.

    Liaises with the surgeon to determine patient outcomes and fitness to proceed to surgical intervention as required.

    Following assessment, seeks advice where necessary, to ensure the appropriate level of post-operative care can be determined.

    Communicates any special requirements and essential resources to the MDT team.

    Liaise with General Practitioners and other Health Professional involved in the patients care to arrange treatment plans for patients in preparation for surgery.

    Provides support and advice for patients, carers, family, and staff.

    Completes competency assessment, training, and development, for new staff and the mentoring of staff as required.

    Ensures work is carried out efficiently and to agreed working practice and protocols.

    Ensures that pre-operative elective surgical care planning is delivered to national and local evidence-based guidelines.

    Effectively communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team and key stakeholders.

    Requests medical information from General Practitioners and other healthcare providers as required to ensure all relevant information is available for the surgeon.

    Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • RGN Level 1 registered on NMC register
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience), with evidence of recent professional development
  • Desirable

  • ENB 998 or relevant teaching qualification
  • Health Assessment Skills at academic level 6/7
  • Experience

    Essential

  • At least 2 years experience of working within pre-operative assessment
  • Able to work independently and prioritise patient caseload and pre-operative assessment workload.
  • Well-developed communication skills, written verbal, and IT.
  • Ability to work autonomously

  • Advance assessment skills in a pre-operative assessment or equivalent background.
