Vertex is seeking an experienced litigation counsel to support our continued international growth and operations in 35+ countries outside of North America. This is an exciting opportunity to join Vertex as its first counsel focused primarily on international litigation and dispute resolution at Vertex's International Headquarters in the United Kingdom. This position will support and report to the Head of Global Litigation in Boston, Massachusetts, and will be responsible for providing day-to-day legal advice and counsel on a wide range of litigation and dispute resolution matters. The role is hybrid (on-site 3 days/week) based in Vertex's International HQ in Paddington, London.

Key Responsibilities

Proactively handling a variety of legal matters that arise in Vertex's international markets, from fact investigation to resolution
Efficiently managing outside counsel when necessary, including tactical guidance, staffing, case management, budgeting, and alignment with Vertex's broader legal strategy
Leading or assisting on internal investigations and proactive risk mitigation initiatives across the organization
Working cross-functionally to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice and identify areas of litigation risk
Periodically reviewing and providing guidance on contracts from a litigation and dispute-resolution perspective
Monitoring changes to relevant laws, regulations, and enforcement priorities in international markets, and communicating actionable takeaways to appropriate audiences
Participating in various Legal & OBIE (Office of Business Integrity & Ethics) Department and cross-functional projects and initiatives
Assisting Vertex's Privacy and Employment counsel on a variety of matters as needed

Qualifications

Fully qualified lawyer with substantial litigation experience, including in one or more of the following areas: life sciences, products liability, investigations, and/or intellectual property litigation
Effective interpersonal skills and strong ability to communicate and collaborate with employees throughout the company, including employees located in different offices and/or time zones
Willingness to travel on occasion, including for active matters in other jurisdictions
Excellent analytical skills, as well as impeccable attention to detail
Ability to think strategically, manage cross-functional initiatives, provide timely advice, and work independently with minimal supervision
