    AWE has amazing opportunities for Tooling Design Engineers

    As we enter a dynamic phase in our project, we have several opportunities for Tooling Design Engineers to join AWE and contribute to our crucial role in ensuring national security.

    Role: Tooling Design Engineers (Office-based)

    Location: Reading area

    Closing date: 30th May 2024

    Salary: £30,000 - £50,000 (depending on skills and experience) plus additional allowance

    Working in a highly regulated industry, the Tooling Design Engineer's role involves creating custom hardware designs to meet program needs.

    Although not an exhaustive list, we are particularly interested in candidates with experience in any of the following areas:

    • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes such as machining, presswork, inspection, molding, and metrology

    • Design to Manufacture (D2M) experience with tooling or equipment, covering requirements capture, concept generation, development, manufacturing, and commissioning

    • Preparing formal technical documents, including technical drawings (compliant with BS8888), design support materials like reports and calculations. Experience in presenting at formal design reviews is advantageous

    • Proficiency in 3D parametric CAD software, preferably Siemens NX

    • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management Tools, preferably Siemens Teamcenter

    • Developing hardware designs within a staged approval process

    • Conducting DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis)

    • Understanding and application of UK Health and Safety Regulations in a Manufacturing or Production environment, including quality standards, best practices, and procedures

    • Familiarity with Model Based Realization is advantageous

    Candidates must be ready to acquire and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and work in designated areas.
