    We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Midwife to join our Screening team as a Deputy Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator. Within this role you would support the delivery of the six national Antenatal and Screening (ANNB) pathways. You would work with the screening coordinator to facilitate expert screening discussion, discuss screening results/options and provide clinical care to families.

    As part of the screening team, you will liaise with local and national multi-agency teams, including specialist consultants, sonographers, senior managers, laboratory staff, NHSE and PHE QA to implement and embed robust systems and processes which underpin the ANNB screening care pathways.

    Main duties of the job
    • You will monitor screening results and discuss with women any high chance results, ensuring they are aware of all options regarding available further testing.
    • You will perform NIPT testing for women and notify them of the results.
    • You will deal with sensitive screening information regarding infectious diseases, specifically Hepatitis B and HIV.
    • You will maintain all appropriate screening databases and will participate in the compilation of the monthly and quarterly KPI data reported to NHS England.
    • You will participate in the training and education of staff as part of the mandatory training programme, as well as in response to any identified screening incidents/compliance.
    • You will liaise with the multi-professional team to ensure all six ANNB screening pathways are delivered as recommended.

    • To work with the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator to support the delivery of the 6 National Antenatal and Newborn screening pathways.
    • Collation of data to inform the nationally required Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and annual data submissions is a key component of the role, as is assistance with screening audits to inform service provision.
    • Works autonomously within NMC, Trust & Directorate Guidelines to provide total care to a defined number of women.
    • To support the Antenatal and Newborn Screening coordinator to undertake training of staff for antenatal and newborn screening.
    • To deputise for the Antenatal and Newborn screening coordinator in their absence.
    • To provide support and expert advice to women throughout the antenatal and newborn screening pathways.

Person Specification Qualifications & Education Essential
    • Registered Midwife (RM)
    • Meet NMC requirements for Practice Assessor/supervisor
    Desirable
    • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification
    Knowledge & Experience Essential
    • Experience as a Band 6 Midwife leading to autonomous practice
    • Competent to ensure the delivery of evidence-based practice
    • Demonstrates a broad knowledge of current nursing / midwifery issues
    • Ability to work within acute and primary healthcare settings
    • Understanding of the legal framework around Safeguarding Children
    Desirable
    • Evidence of ongoing professional and personal development
    • A working knowledge of clinical governance
    • An understanding of public health issues
    • An awareness of training requirements for Student Midwives
