- BSc Honours degree in an appropriate biological science with a substantial genetics component or alternative qualifications and equivalent experience
- HCPC Clinical Scientist Registration Certificate
- Postgraduate qualification in Genomics
- Experience working in a clinical diagnostics/ genomics laboratory
- Extensive knowledge of clinical genomics and a demonstrable track record in the delivery of a diagnostic service
- Experience of writing clinical genetics reports
- Knowledge and experience of molecular variant classification in accordance with relevant guidelines including analysis of complex variants including CNV and structural variants from next-generation sequencing data

Job summary
Our scientific teams have developed significant expertise and have established close working relationships with our clinical colleagues to ensure that our patients benefit from the information generated by WGS. To be able to grow the service and enable prompt adoption of testing in newly-eligible tumour types, we are now looking for a Clinical Scientists to join our team dedicated to the WGS service.
The main focus of the role will be the analysis and interpretation of WGS data for cancer patients (solid and haematological malignancies in both paediatric and adult patients) and presentation of the findings to scientists, clinicians, clinical geneticists and genetic counsellors at our regular Genomic Tumour Advisory Boards (GTABs). Working across the North-Thames GLH, WGS-scientists will interact with scientific and clinical colleagues from the GLH as well as the partner laboratories and referring hospitals to support a pan-GLH service.
An understanding of and proficiency in variant classification for somatic and/or germline findings according to published guidelines is required and experience in analysis of complex genetic data, from WGS (including the 100K project), would be an advantage.
We welcome applications from registered clinical scientist working in cancergenomics or genetics with an interest in acquired diseases.
It is anticipated thatinterviews will be held week commencing 24th June.
Main duties of the job
To follow established procedures and protocols
Comply with health and safety policies

Assist in quality assurance procedures
Assist in training of new staff or visitors
To generate and interpret results, to classify genomic variants, to calculate risks where necessary, and to produce clear and concise patient reports adhering to agreed templates and sample turnaround times as directed by the Head of Service. The focus of this role will be on the analysis of whole-genome sequencing analysis with presentation of cases at GTAB and issuing of reports
To participate in the training and supervision of other members of staff and visitors
To prepare for and participate in multidisciplinary meetings with other members of staff, clinicians and staff from other scientific disciplines as required.
To undertake additional responsibilities as directed by the Head of Service, for example Deputy Safety Officer
