    This is an exciting opportunity and a role which impacts on every community across our borough.

    We want to build on our partnership working with headteachers, governors, parents and carers and other stakeholders in pursuit of the best educational opportunities and outcomes for all our children and young people.

    The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the Directorate delivers its statutory duties for children with special educational needs and disabilities along with improving Education, Training, and Employment (ETE) outcomes for vulnerable post-16 young people.

    Championing our most vulnerable learners the role will involve implementing our SEND Strategy, including the commissioning and oversight of provision, ensuring robust transition supporting children with Special Education Needs or Disabilities to move to their adult life in a more coherent and joined up way, leading to greater independence in adult life.

    The post holder will work closely with elected Members and partners including Adult Services, Community Health providers such as Oxleas, public health and the voluntary sector to ensure that Greenwich is a place where every child and young person has a great chance to succeed and where children and families are safe, healthy and thrive.

    This is a system leadership role, building relationships with schools, settings, providers and partners to improve achievement and attainment as well as meeting head on some of the challenges created by the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.

    Whether you are improving schools or service, taking forward high quality provision or shaping innovative responses, your mission will be to change lives, improve education outcomes and help make Royal Greenwich a great place to live, learn and grow.

    We are relentlessly ambitious for our children and young people, particularly our most vulnerable, with a clear focus on attainment and inclusion.

    You will be adept at understanding safeguarding, managing and improving education and inclusion outcomes for all children, working in partnership with school leaders and other system partners as well as management of financial and enabling resources.

    Bringing a deep understanding of equality and diversity together with the inclusion agenda and learning and achievement, you will demonstrate experience of working in a complex system with political understanding and the ability to lead and develop teams and others to deliver outstanding outcomes for children.
