Associate Healthcare Science Practitioner- Blood Science - Leeds, United Kingdom - Leeds Teaching Hospitals

    Default job background
    Permanent
    Description

    Job summary

This is an exciting time to join one of the largest Pathology departments in the country, and in advance of moving to our new £30m Pathology building (on the St. Jamess University Hospital site) and new Acute Hospital Laboratory (on the Leeds General Infirmary site) in mid 2024. The Department of Blood Sciences is seeking to recruit an additional Associate Practitioner to support our laboratory service.

    Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within a large hub laboratory utilising cutting edge technology, serving both Leeds Teaching Hospitals and the wider community. This includes the regional Oncology centre and the Leeds Children's Hospital. In mid 2024, the successful candidate will be involved in the exciting transition to our new, purpose-built hub laboratory at St. Jamess University Hospital.

Candidates will need to have minimum NVQ level 3 plus an equivalent foundation degree/diploma in Biomedical Sciences together with experience of working within a laboratory environment. Experience in automated laboratory medicine, specifically Haematology or Biochemistry would be advantageous, but not essential. Candidates will require good communication skills, must be computer literate and be able to work flexibly as part of a wider team of scientists in the automated laboratories.

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work across all areas of automated laboratory medicine once fully trained. This is a challenging role but one which provides an opportunity for career progression and personal development.

We encourage all candidates to make contact with us to discuss the role(s) and we can offer informal visits to our laboratories for interested candidates.

    About us

Our Pathology services operate across two large university teaching hospitals in the Leeds Metropolitan area with a population of around million and provide services both regionally and nationally. In addition to the new laboratory projects, we are also working to deploy a West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) regional LIMS, and a new Managed Pathology Service Contract. Construction on the new Leeds Children's Hospital is also about to start, which will include all in-patient maternity and specialist neonatal services to become the largest single site maternity centre in the UK.

The successful candidate will be well supported by the wider scientific and clinical teams. The Blood Sciences Department is accredited to ISO15189 and by the IBMS as a training laboratory in both Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to our process of redeploying 'at risk' members of our existing workforce to new roles. As such, all our job adverts are subject to this policy and we reserve the right to close, delay or remove adverts while this process is completed. If you do experience a delay in the shortlisting stage of the recruitment cycle, please bear with us while this process is completed, and contact the named contact if you have any questions.
