    Job summary

    The National Maternity Lead for Equality will use their midwifery registration, experience, knowledge, and skills to work collaboratively across the NHSE Maternity Neonatal programme team and with the Chief Midwifery officer to deliver the objective of the 'Three year delivery plan' to improve equity for mothers and babies. This will be done by working with a range of key stakeholders and staff working across maternity services to design clinical improvement programmes of work related to the outcomes and experiences of Black, Asian and other Minority ethnicities within the population of women and their families who are receiving Maternity care; and to improve equality, equity and accessibility for staff working across Maternity services.

    Main duties of the job

    Working with the Maternity Neonatal programme team and the Chief Midwifery Officer to deliver the objectives of the 'Three year delivery plan' to improve equity for mothers and babies and to devise, and to work closely with key stakeholders to ensure diversity within the workforce and ensure that opportunities within the workforce are equitable, inclusive and accessible.

  • Develop and implement qualitative and quantitative measures to determine performance against the Chief Midwifery Officer's strategic objectives. Report progress against the strategy through personal representation at senior management forums and by written reports. Tailoring delivery to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Ensure that best practice is developed and delivered at organisational and departmental levels. Challenge ways of working and persuade, motivate and influence others to realign their practice where necessary.
  • Ensure that appropriate equality strategies are employed in line with business objectives and that these are fully cascaded.
  • Personally lead, support and contribute to formal negotiations with senior level internal and external stakeholders, providing a high level of negotiating expertise to secure the most advantageous arrangements.

  • Oversee the tracking of progress against plans and transition milestones, ensuring appropriate processes are in place to flag issues, risks and concerns with the relevant stakeholders.

  • Support the creation and locally implement the Three year delivery plan for maternity services, clearly identifying links to national, regional and local priorities and policy objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of general policy and service development.
  • Develop and implement strategies for improving performance and processes, ensuring stakeholders representation.
  • Drive and lead development and improvement of processes.
  • Drives process efficiency in the continuous development of the end-to end cycle and its associated performance metrics.
