    The Engineering Development team is responsible for the Dyson workplace aspect of the programme, the management of the Dyson Institute apprenticeship program, and nurturing the professional development of our students individually and collectively.

    About the Role

    The successful candidate will be responsible for: coaching students, developing engineering knowledge and skills, supporting students with career management, and collaborating to design and deliver the professional development syllabus.The role is part of a multi-skilled team who deliver an engaging Engineering Development Experience for our Students.

    The candidate will need to develop a network across the Institute and the global Dyson business; to support delivering workplace rotations, projects, events, and development activities. It will be key for the candidate to collaborate with a range of business areas, the depth and breadth of collaboration can vary in scope, if desirable and is aligned with the team goals.

    A key part of this role is to work alongside the academic team to help reinforce the learning from the taught syllabus and apply it on real projects. You will help with access to experts in the wider business and scope out appropriate products/ projects/ technologies to use in labs or coursework. You will become an expert in the Higher Education programme deliverables and will be required to continuously develop a strong knowledge base to support colleagues and the students.

    The successful candidate will work closely with line managers to identify appropriate projects for Students, manage allocation for workplace rotations, support Students and Line Managers, and continuously monitor and maintain student progress.

    In addition to the running of the rotations, the team are responsible for a number of events throughout the year; including the year 1 workplace induction and Team selection for the final years of the programme. Each member of the team is responsible for the project management and delivery of events/activities throughout the year, they are expected to manage reviewing the syllabus, planning and logistics, and should utilise their network to identify relevant expertise to deliver content.

    Taking a lead in the Professional development space, you will work collaboratively with other professional development leads across the Dyson Institute team (E.g. Student support) and stakeholders from the wider business. You will have a collective aim to enhance the skillset and capabilities of our students with additional learning and coaching in professional skills which may include effective and professional communications, project management, leadership qualities and career management. The professional development leads are expected to; review and adjust the syllabus to meet the needs of each programme, identify delivery points across the programme, arrange the content (using own experience, utilising internal and external partners), and manage delivery of sessions.

    You'll be based on the Dyson technology campus in Malmesbury and will report to the Engineering Workplace Manager, you may occasionally be required to travel.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead and support workplace managers in the development of training and projects that realise the intended learning outcomes.

    Support the Recruitment and Admissions team in the selection of future cohorts of students for the Dyson Institute, including design and administration of assessment tasks and materials to evaluate technical capabilities.

    Support the academic team in the development of interesting and effective coursework and lab exercises to aid student learning and assessment.

    Lead thinking and best practices in professional development of the students for the workplace team.

    Consult and collaborate with colleagues in the Dyson Institute to design and maintain the professional development programme, including identifying skills, training opportunities and activities.

    Manage the delivery of training sessions and content, with opportunities to collaborate with the Technical Training team in RDD.

    Mentor students with technical problems they may encounter on their course or within their roles, provide coaching, and/or signpost them to training material or experts.

    Manage situation-specific technical training for students at the beginning of their work placements.

    Hold technical 1 to 1s and/or group sessions with students to discuss both academic and workplace elements of their personal and professional development, providing guidance for their career choices across the global Dyson group.

    Collaborate with the wider Engineering Development team to deliver a consistent experience.

    Deliver process improvements and input to policy definitions.

    Actively review and refine interactions with Engineers and Managers to improve their engagement.

    Project manage events and activities to support student development and progression to a specialism.

    About you

    Degree qualification in engineering, software or related discipline, or equivalent experience is mandatory.

    Demonstrable experience and commitment to coaching, mentoring and/or development of people.

    Good analytical skills and attention to detail.

    Experience in the design, engaging delivery and evaluation of training material.

    Proven ability to communicate appropriate, concise, and accurate information in written and verbal format.

    A positive attitude and ability to remain calm under pressure.

    Experience in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking, dynamic time management and responsive planning are key to success.

    Proven ability to work across multiple projects in parallel, while managing the expectations of numerous stakeholders.

    Excellent team-working skills with aptitude to work under own initiative and manage own workload.

    Registration with a professional engineering institute.

    Experience of influencing internal stakeholders.

    Understanding and experience in designing a training and development programme / syllabus.

    Accomplished project manager.

    Readiness to adapt or generate imaginative and innovative ideas, in line with core Dyson values.

    Initiative-taking and self-driven with a desire to constantly deliver to the highest standards.

    Knowledge and experience using a learning management system or willingness to learn.
