    Trainee Child and Wellbeing Practitioner - Brighton, East Sussex, United Kingdom - Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust

    Description

    Working with men/couples (all ages from 18 upwards) in the context of physical health conditions that commonly have an impact on psychosexual functioning i.e.

    post surgical interventions, general health issues or psychological issues.


    To carry a clinical caseload and to ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist sexual health service to adults living with an erectile dysfunction.


    To undertake psychological assessment, therapeutic interventions, education and support for existing members with patients experiencing broader bladder and bowel related issues.

    To offer specialist advice and consultation regarding patient's care to non-psychologist colleagues and to non-professional carers.


    To provide consultation, training, and support to the MDT and to other professionals working with people with Sexual Health conditions, and to referring General Practitioners where requested.

    To utilise skills for audit, policy, service development and research.

    To propose and implement policy changes within the Bladder and Bowel service (where appropriate).
    Clinically supervises assistant practitioners, graduate psychologists and doctoral trainees (where appropriate). Co-ordinates provision of a specialist service and provides specialist advice and consultation to other professions and carers.

    Will work within a framework of Key performance indicators.

    Detailed requirements relating to clinical teaching, training and supervision, management, recruitment, policy and service development research and service evaluation can be located in the attached JD and PS.

    To ensure the development, maintenance, and dissemination of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holders professional and service manager(s)


    To ensure the development and articulation for best practice in psychology within and across the service, by continuing to develop and exercise skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology, and related disciplines.

    To maintain and promulgate the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing, and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of (e.g. Health Professions Council, BACP, BACP, BPS) and Trust policies and procedures.


    To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies, and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.

    To fully participate in the Trusts performance and review the personal development planning process on an annual basis.


    To undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with line manager as part of the personal development planning process.

    To achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.


    To contribute positively to the broader developments within the Trusts developing network of psychological therapies (Allied Psychologies Forum) in the context of long-term health conditions.


    To receive instructions from and carry out any other duties at the reasonable request of the line manager which are commensurate with the role, including project work.

    To contribute to a healthy and safe working environment by adhering to health and safety regulations and Trust policies.
    Clinical supervision training and/or equivalent experience

    Specialist training/or equivalent training relevant to Sexual Health

    Significant post qualification experience of working as a qualified psychological professional at a specialist level within Sexual Health.

    Experience of working with and assessing a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, and other appropriate care settings, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

    Well established knowledge and skills in using a broad range of advanced assessments and tests relevant to Sexual Health clients.

    Experience of delivering teaching and training to other professionals and senior staff in other agencies.
    Experience of providing clinical supervision to trainee clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists and other members of the MDT.
    Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.
    Specialist knowledge and experience of interpretation and writing up a range of Sexual Health assessment tests.
    Experience of providing psychological and interventions to adults with Sexual Health/Erectile dysfunction conditions and an interest in developing a specialist knowledge with appropriate supervision

    Experience of working together with service users to ensure that they are equal partners in service design, and evaluation, research, and training.


    Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
    UK driving licence and car driver with access to a car for work purposes.

    Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.

    Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies relevant to psychology
    Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
    Knowledge and understanding of the principles of confidentiality and the Data Protection Act.
    Support of the values and beliefs of the biopsychosocial models of work.

    The belief that service users have the intrinsic right to be involved in all aspects of their care, including the development and evaluation of the service.

    Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours.

    Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.


    Ability to take a global view of service needs and resources.
    Formal training in the supervision of other psychologists.
