    12 Month Fixed Term - Band 7 Project Nurse Occupational Health, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

    We are excited to recruit an experienced Occupational Health Practitioner to join our team as a Band 7 Project Nurse for a 12 month fixed term contract full time.

    The Occupational Health Services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are on an improvement journey so this is an exciting time to join the service. We are about to introduce a new Occupational Health computer system which will transform how we deliver the service and we are also in the final stages of planning to build a new purpose built Occupational Health Hub.

    We are looking for a dynamic individual to work with the Head of Occupational Health to set up new processes and practices, develop clinical guidelines and pathways and support the whole occupational health team to implement the new computer system. The main focus for this new role will be to lead on quality improvement projects in Occupational Health.

    Main duties of the job

    Candidates should have substantial experience at band 6 or above within Occupational Health and have a recognised Occupational Health qualification. The post holder will have in-depth specialist knowledge of occupational health and experience of quality improvement methods with a proven track record for implementing change. Excellent communication and team working skills and a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential. As is a drive to deliver Occupational Health differently, the ability to challenge old ways of thinking and the ambition to continuously improve the service. The successful candidate will also have dedicated time allocated for caseload management to maintain their Occupational Health skills.

    About us

    The Occupational Health Team currently includes two Consultants in Occupational Health and a group of nurses in bands 5 and 7, Occupational Therapist, a sessional psychiatrist and a clinical psychologist as well as a supportive administrative team. There is a robust health and wellbeing offer for staff including an EAP and physiotherapy service.

    Our Occupational Health service has a new leadership team, who are dedicated to improving the service we provide.     PURPOSE

    The post holder will be required to work as part of Occupational Health to implement a range of projects in the department. In the early stages of a project, this will involve initiating contact with the multi-disciplinary team, investigating and mapping workflows, and product testing. In the latter stages the focus will be on implementation, training, documentation (including policy and protocol development) and supporting the Occupational Health teams.

    The post holder will participate in the planning and management of projects as required.

    To provide feedback to relevant corporate and operational teams on progress and issues relating to clinical practice in Occupational Health.

    To lead on nursing and AHP and management policy development relating to local and national objectives.

    To support a team of clinical staff to manage and implement a range of projects within LTHT. Areas of responsibility will include clinician communication and engagement, training and go-live support. Their portfolio may include but is not limited to policies, procedures, workforce management, education and patient safety

    3. JOB DIMENSIONS

    Lead on the nursing/AHP aspects relating to the development, implementation and on-going use of Occupational Health interventions across the Trust.

    The post holder will be expected to liaise with Operational and HR colleagues throughout the Trust.

    Contribute to Occupational Health projects on all aspects of clinical assessment and implementation, including input to any clinical functionality where appropriate.

    Support a team of Nurses/AHP working on a range of projects.

    Some of these projects are transformational and as such communication may be may be complex and contentious.

    4.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    Qualifications

    Registered Nurse/AHP/midwife

    Recognised Occupational Health qualification

    Recognised teaching/assessing qualification (desirable).

    Degree (desirable).

    Qualification in or equivalent advanced specialist knowledge in quality improvement methodology (desirable).

    Management and or Leadership qualification (desirable).

    Experience

    Significant experience at Senior (Sister/Charge Nurse/AHP) level or equivalent Clinical audit and standard setting.

    Working with a wide range of professionals including medical, nursing and management colleagues.

    Leading teams that are accountable for occupational health service delivery.

    Evidence of working in challenging environments.

    Understanding of project/change management methodologies.

    Experience of leading change projects.

    Experience of clinical IT systems (desirable)

    Experience of developing nursing/AHP policies, protocols and procedures.

    Skills

    Proven clinical & leadership experience which includes managing changing and competing workloads within clinical environments.

    Experience of staff management, allocation and deployment.

    Ability to communicate and deal sensitively with emotive and contentious issues.
