    Position: Kitchen Manager

    Locations: Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel, 9 Haddington Place, Leith Walk, Edinburgh EH7 4AL

    Contract: Permanent

    Hours per week: 40

    Salary: £Competitive

    Accommodation: This is a live-out position

    About the Kitchen Manager role:

    • Supervise and coordinate kitchen colleagues, cooks, etc., ensuring smooth operations and appropriate staffing levels
    • Train new kitchen staff on food preparation, safety procedures, and kitchen protocols
    • Oversee food production to uphold quality, consistency, taste, and portion sizes
    • Collaborate with Hostel and Operations Managers to develop and revise menus based on guest preferences and cost efficiency
    • Manage food orders and kitchen supplies, ensuring timely delivery and proper storage
    • Monitor stock levels, minimize waste, and optimize portion sizes to control food costs
    • Follow Cooksafe guidelines for kitchen cleanliness and organization
    • Handle administrative duties like record-keeping, budget management, training, and performance assessments
    • Lead by example, fostering a positive work environment, teamwork, and professionalism
    • Act as a cook when needed, preparing all dishes and beverages to standard
    • Complete any reasonable tasks as assigned by your Line Manager

    Required Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

    • Demonstrate food safety and hygiene knowledge with the necessary qualifications
    • Efficiently work in a fast-paced setting
    • Attention to detail, and a dedication to high standards, quality, and cleanliness
    • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate and mentor the kitchen team

    Ideally, you will:

    • Be flexible to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
    • Posess excellent problem-solving abilities to manage operational challenges and conflicts
    • Demonstrate deep knowledge of food preparation, kitchen equipment, and safety practices
    • Have exceptional organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
