- Conduct counselling assessments and offer treatment to clients referred to Footsteps and/or Bridge programs.
- Devise and implement coherent counselling treatment plans tailored to clients' mental health and overall well-being, grounded in a suitable conceptual framework of their challenges, and employing appropriate therapeutic methods for each individual case.
- Evaluate treatment options, considering various theoretical and therapeutic models, as well as intricate factors related to the client's historical and developmental processes that have influenced them.
- Provide counselling advice and consultations to clients as needed.
- Contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically driven framework for understanding and caring for all clients of the Integrated Wellbeing and Recovery service, and agencies serving this demographic.
- Communicate effectively and tactfully regarding clients' treatment plans and progress, while adhering to professional ethics and confidentiality requirements.
- Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Counselling qualification (proficiency certificate required)
- Accreditation with the BACP or working towards accreditation
- Experience in facilitating therapeutic group sessions
- Experience in providing counselling services to individuals within the criminal justice system and/or with substance abuse backgrounds
- Experience working with vulnerable adults or in secure settings

What you will be doing
You will be stationed on-site, collaborating with teams possessing a diverse skill set to deliver recovery-focused Health and Wellbeing Services within Surrey Prisons. The provision of counselling services will be integral in enhancing therapeutic programs, involving direct interaction with incarcerated individuals grappling with mild mental health concerns and/or substance abuse issues.
As a member of a regional counsellor team, you will administer 1:1 and group therapy and counselling sessions to service users aged 18 and above at HMP Downview, HMP Send, and HMP/YOI Bronzfield (with varying base locations across these sites).
Please note that these roles are fixed-term until December 2026. We welcome applications from both full-time and part-time candidates.
