    Description

    We have recently gained a third CT scanner completed in June 23 and replaced both our in-hospital scanners, all with the GE Revolution Ascend.


    We are in need of additional staff to cover maternity leave and support our extended working day and 24/7 service.

    We are currently planning the approved CDC at Newmarket which will open in November 2024.

    We are looking to employ a Band 5 radiographer with the opportunity to progress to Band 6.

    We will consider both students and qualified radiographers who are keen to acquire experience and have the desire to learn in CT scanning.


    STAFF CAR PARKING


    Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 - 18:30.


    For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital.

    Many of our staff have worked at the West Suffolk for a number of years creating a real sense of community.

    We are at an extremely exciting phase in our development with the new hospital designs underway. The department has QSI accreditation which we are extremely proud of, demonstrating our commitment to quality care.

    The West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds provides acute and secondary care services (emergency department, maternity and neonatal services, day surgery unit, eye treatment centre, Macmillan unit and children's ward).

    It has 500+ beds and is a partner teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge.


    Adult and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.

    To have a working knowledge of Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations (IRMER) and safe working practice associated with CT and Radiology.

    Able to assist in day-to-day activities of the CT department, with supervision from Band 6 and 7 CT Radiographers.

    Providing a consistent high quality of patient care and communication skills.

    Communicate effectively with all patients, relatives, carers, and other health professionals.


    Advise medical staff/referrers seeking advice with respect to appropriateness of cross-sectional imaging for specific cases, availability of results and other queries.

    Planning and organisational Skills

    Keep equipment, work areas and accessories clean and tidy.


    Report any faults or hazards to the Service Manager or Deputy, or in their absence report to Band 6 CT radiographer.


    Encourage cohesive working arrangements within a small team acting as a role model and providing leadership for more junior staff and staff rotating through the team.

    To scan patients following department protocols, working closely with the CT Lead, Band 6 and 7 Radiographers.

    Take responsibility for the welfare and comfort of the patient whilst under the care of the radiology department, prior, during and post their examination.

    Ensure all patients are positively identified, consented and safety checked using the appropriate questionnaires prior to commencement of any examination, as required by local rules/operational policies.

    Adhere to Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulation (IRMER), on justification of procedures.


    Ensure requirements of radiation administration and protection are observed as identified in the department local rules, procedure protocols and guidelines.


    To seek guidance from CT Lead, Band 6 and 7 Radiographer and/or the reporting Radiologist to fully assess the images produced following examination.

    To participate in CT out of hours rota including evenings, weekends and bank holidays when training is complete and competencies have been signed off.

    To be flexible to cover an extended working week and weekend hours for CT on call. Adhoc shift changes are accepted practice according to service demands.

    Travel to satellite sites to deliver CT services as required.
    Have a degree or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography.
    To have a basic knowledge and understanding of cross-sectional anatomy and pathology.
    Previous clinical experience working in CT unit.

    Personal qualities
    Occupational health clearance to carry out all physical tasks.
    Ability to travel to satellite locations to carry out post.
    Flexible approach to working hours and duties with ability to cover extended working days, weekends and Bank Holidays
