    Job summary

    We are looking for a Band 5Occupational Therapist to join our team of Childrens Occupational Therapists.

    The Mid YorkshireHospitals NHS Trust Childrens Therapy Team offers evidenced basedinterventions for Children and Young People from birth to 19 with additionalneeds impacting on their development or ability to engage in childhoodoccupations. The team has a base at Pinderfields and Pontefract Hospitals andcross site working will be required. Assessment and interventions are offeredin the most appropriate environment for the presenting need including hospital(ward or outpatient), childs home or school.

    We offer a serviceto those children whose ability to access and participate in daily life isimpacted by developmental disorders, physical disability or significant needsarising from neurodiversity.

    As a team we arekeen to develop the service to provide the best experience and outcome fromChildrens Occupational Therapy.

    We work closelywith our colleagues in Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and educationas well as other external agencies.

    The role mayinvolve supervision and mentorship of junior colleagues and there areopportunities to be involved in the ongoing development of our service.

    The successfulapplicant will be required to have access to a vehicle to support work into thecommunity

    Main duties of the job

    Our team assess using standardised and non standardised assessments; these are used to set goals with the child, young person and parent carer. Intervention then aligns with one of our OT pathways involving direct and/or indirect care.

    We work in a range of hospital, educational and home settings and consider physical access and strategies and equipment to support care of the child/young person and to prevent unwanted postural change and enable participation.

    As part of the children's workforce we contribute to EHCP processes and safeguarding work.

    Job responsibilities

    To beprofessionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own practice,including the management of individuals in your care.

    Tounderstand and apply the Occupational Therapy process in the effectiveself-management of a caseload within the Childrens Therapy Service, assessingand mitigating risk, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits inorder to enable service users in components of self-care, productivity andleisure.

    To workwithin the scope of MY Childrens Therapy service when prioritising need,assessing and delivering interventions.

    Towork within agreed MY Childrens Therapy service delivery model and pathways.

    Toknow the professional and personal scope of own practice and make referrals toother agencies.

    To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the keyconcepts of biological, physical, social, psychological and clinical sciencesin relation to occupational performance relevant to Childrens Therapy Service.

    Toutilise a range of standard and non-standardised Occupational Therapyassessments and techniques in areas of occupational performance (education,leisure, personal, domestic, environment) and skill deficits relevant toChildrens Occupational Therapy.

    To beresponsible for the assessment, prescription and evaluation of specialistequipment and adaptations for children with multiple and complex needs.

    Todemonstrate a knowledge of Childrens Therapy conditions and currentOccupational Therapy approaches to their treatment and apply a high level ofknowledge of the effect of disability and provide training and advice onlifestyle changes and adaptations to the individuals social and physicalenvironment.

    To beable to use research, clinical reasoning and problem solving skills includingactivity analysis to identify the therapeutic benefit of client centredinterventions and make professional judgements with individuals with diverse orcomplex needs, or multiple problems according to outcome, changes in patientneeds and environmental influences.

    Touse knowledge, training and experience to plan and implement client centredindividual and/or group treatment programmes for children with complexphysical, mental health and social needs.

    To beable to formulate specific and appropriate management plans including thesetting of time scales to accurately prioritise needs with individuals and themulti-disciplinary team, in relation to available resources and professionaldemands.

    Tomonitor, analyse, evaluate and modify the Occupational Therapy process andtreatment in order to measure progress and ensure the effectiveness ofintervention.

    To useknowledge and experience to carry out and supervise a variety of physicalinterventions that requires a high level of physical and manual dexterity.

    Toapply knowledge of the effect of disability and provide training and advice onlifestyle changes and adaptations to the individuals social and physicalenvironment.

    Towork alone in a variety of environments, including home and school, this mayinclude confined and unhygienic spaces that could present a risk to personalhealth and safety.

    Towork jointly with a Senior Children's Therapy Occupational Therapist forcomplex cases or if there is a specific learning need of the Band 5Occupational Therapist.

    Whennecessary, to be responsible for the co-ordination of the individuals clinicalcare package.

    Todeliver Occupational Therapy interventions to the children's ward to facilitatesafer discharges.

    To beresponsible for inputting into a Childs Educational and Health Care Plan (withsupervision or senior support) and fulfilling the Occupational Therapy elementsof the plan within the scope of the MY Therapy Service.

    To beable to quickly respond to risk or acute needs of Children who requireassessment, intervention and discharge planning on the Childrens Acute ward.

    Tofollow MY policy and processes/ procedures.

    Essential

  • ExperienceInvolvement in professional practice education.
  • Experience of work in Occupational Therapy
  • Desirable

  • Experience of a diverse range of clinical settings. Previous experience working within healthcare.
  • Experience of working or placement within a Childrens Specialist OT Services.
  • Involvement in a clinical special interest group.
  • Experience of having a role for designated projects.
  • Professional experience of National curriculum, education systems and EHCP
  • Supervision of junior or support staff.
  • Involvement in professional practice education.
  • Evidence of post graduate learning or experience
  • Qualifications

  • Dip COT or relevant OT Degree
  • Registration with HPC
  • Desirable

  • Have completed a recognised professional practice educator course.
  • Member of British Association of Occupational Therapy
