    Job Title: Interim Lead and Programme Director

    Company: Cumberland Council - Cumbria Economic Growth Team


    Salary: £77,547 - £85,827

    Location: Penrith

    Contract Type: Fixed Term 8 months


    The Cumberland Council, in partnership with Westmorland and Furness Council, is establishing a new Cumbria Economic Growth Team. This team will focus on implementing targeted economic programs to enhance opportunities and foster inclusive growth across the region.

    As the Interim Lead and Programme Director, your role involves providing independent support and leadership for the transition towards a new economic growth approach in Cumbria. You will oversee the transfer of programs to a new local authority model, engaging with key businesses and organizations to incorporate their input into future initiatives.

    You will also manage the smooth transition of core economic functions previously handled by CLEP, such as strategic planning and business representation. Collaboration with partners is essential to support the development of a new Cumbria Economic Strategy.

    This role presents a tremendous opportunity to collaborate with various sectors and partners to deliver impactful government programs for the benefit of Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness residents.


    About the Role:

    • Lead the integration of various entities including councils, boards, sectors, and organizations to support the economic growth strategy.
    • Work closely with partners to develop and implement the Cumbria Economic Growth Strategy, focusing on business needs and community opportunities.
    • Create a culture of learning and empowerment within the team to achieve sustainable economic growth in the region.

    Requirements:

    • Demonstrated senior leadership experience in economic policy, understanding local economy dynamics.
    • Proven ability to support inclusive economic growth through strategic interventions and collaboration.
    • Experience in corporate governance, stakeholder management, and relationship-building at various levels.
