About us:
The Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences is a world-leading group that brings together expertise across the clinical and basic science spectrum of the physiology and pathology of human movement and movement disorders.
The Department incorporates various groups with numerous collaborative scientific and clinical research links across the Institute of Neurology, UCL and particularly strong links with the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the Royal Free London.
Professor of Clinical Neurogenetics, Nicholas Wood, is a clinician scientist, whose main research focus is the dissection of the aetiology and pathogenic mechanisms of movement disorders.
The Wood Lab has worked across a number of areas to find genes causing neurological disease and is responsible for identifying several that cause familial PD, - PINK1, LRRK2, GCH1 and PLA2G6.
About the role:
We have an outstanding opportunity for a Research Fellow to join the Wood Lab and work independently on a new project _'_Mapping the PD brain: Oligomer-driven functional genomics'_,
_ _the
_ _objective of which is to provide a comprehensive mapping of the genetic factors and biological processes that cause α-synuclein driven Parkinson's disease (PD).
The role is available immediately and funded by a grant from Aligning Science across Parkinson's (ASAP) administered by the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) to 31 December 2024 in the first instance.
About you:
You will hold a PhD in Genetics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline, and will be self-directed with excellent research skills, capable of working collaboratively in a team of researchers, while maintaining independent thinking and initiative.
What we offer:
Appointment as Research Fellow is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be as Research Assistant (salary £35,702 - £37,548 per annum) with appointment as Research Fellow being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
