    Job summary

    Greater Manchester Cancer is the cancer programme of the NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care representing the whole of Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire, covering a population of 3 million people. Personalised Care is a key part of the NHS Long Term Plan. It is a whole system approach that enables a variety of services across the health, social care, public health and community spectrum to be integrated around the individual in order to deliver better outcomes and experiences. Therefore it is an integral cross-cutting programme within the Alliance which has grown rapidly over the past 12 months and in need of project support.

    Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance are looking to appoint an additional Personalised Care Manager to work closely with the Programme Director for Personalised Care to drive forward delivery of the Greater Manchester Cancer Personalised Care for Cancer Strategy on behalf of Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance. This post will be focused on delivering our GM Cancer Genomics Priorities to mainstream and embed genomic and genetic testing across all oncology pathways .

    GM Cancer is hosted and based at The Christie and our staff have a hybrid working pattern (mix of working from home and in the office), with some travel across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

    Main duties of the job

    The Personalised Care Managers will work with the Programme Director for Personalised Care to:

  • Manage a portfolio of personalised care projects
  • Liaise with appropriate functions within GM Cancer and the Greater Manchester Integrated Care on joint project matters
  • Manage and contribute to the reporting of progress/under performance of projects to the GM Cancer Personalised Care Board, GM Cancer Programme Assurance Group and other Boards and Committees, as required Manage and contribute to project plan reviews to ensure that any underperformance or potential delay is identified early, reported to the GM Cancer Personalised Care Board, and ensure that remedial action agreed by the Board is actioned within the agreed timescale
  • We are looking for passionate and innovative individuals with strong leadership skills, previous experience leading transformation across multiple organisations, experience working with a variety of senior stakeholders, and leading projects in complex and challenging environments. This is only available as a secondment until the end of March 2025.

    Job description

    Job responsibilities

    The Personalised Care Manager will support the Programme Manager to:

  • Lead planning and delivery of the programme, including the identification of key milestones, deliverables, and benefits
  • Work with stakeholders to support the delivery of a personalised care for cancer strategy / implementation plan, ensuring this aligns to national, regional, and local objectives.
  • Promote the importance of personalised care in the delivery of all GM Cancer projects / the GM Cancer strategy, and organise events were appropriate
  • Build links with GM Cancer Pathway boards to ensure personalised care is always on the agenda, and to be responsive to current need
  • Link in with relevant national, regional personalised care groups were appropriate as well as the overall GM Cancer Personalised Care Board to promote the GM Cancer personalised care programme
  • Promote the strategy within GM and EC localities to inform local strategies
  • Present information and issues, explaining highly complex issues, to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • The indicative roles and responsibilities are as follows:

    Leadership and expertise:

  • Support the implementation of the Personalised Care for Cancer strategy for Greater Manchester and East Cheshire
  • Act as a personalised care subject matter expert
  • Be a champion for personalised care for cancer across Greater Manchester and East Cheshire, as well as co-ordinate and respond to national / regional work
  • Exert influence upon senior clinical and managerial colleagues to ensure that implementation of the strategy remain a priority in their own work programmes
  • Remain up-to-date with personalised care developments within the GM Integrated Care and from a national / regional perspective and disseminate these developments to the appropriate audience
  • Act as the personalised care representative on various cancer pathway boards.
  • Set-up and organisation:

  • Manage the administration of various personalised care for cancer meetings and project specific boards
  • Oversee the preparation of agendas, papers and minutes for project specific meetings and follow up agreed actions with responsible group members, holding them to account for lack of progress
  • Build relationships across the Greater Manchester and East Cheshire region, including primary, secondary and community care as well as public & patient engagement
  • Manage personalised care project dashboards to measure success within the personalised care for cancer programme.
  • Communication and support

  • Be a point of contact for various personalised care for cancer workstreams
  • Lead the development of innovative proposals for personalised care projects
  • Create reports and papers to update relevant boards and project steering groups on project developments and to seek approval for recommended action.
  • Data and information

  • Keep up to date with research and literature from national and international sources relevant to the personalised care agenda
  • Collate data and literature into concise reports and tools and present to the Personalised Care team when required, making clear recommendations for action
  • In conjunction with the Programme Director for Personalised Care, review how data is captured across GM to ensure this is fit for purpose and influences the personalised care for cancer programme.
  • Planning and reporting

  • Manage Personalised Care project plans for the various projects ensuring that this contains clear objectives, tasks and identified leads
  • Ensure that the work plan reflects, and contributes towards the delivery of the Personalised Care for Cancer strategy / implementation plan and objectives of improved clinical care and patient experience
  • Coordinate the reporting of outcome measures so that they can be monitored during the year
  • Track progress against these outcome measures and provide progress reports to project steering groups and the Personalised Care for Cancer Board when required
  • Maintain a risk register for the relevant workstreams, reporting risks and issues to the Programme Lead, Programme Director, and Personalised Care for Cancer Board when required.

    Essential

  • Educated to postgraduate degree level or equivalent or significant experience of working at a similar level
  • Desirable

  • Formal project management qualification ( PRINCE 2 practitioner or equivalent)
  • Experience

  • Has experience of leadership without direct authority
  • Has experience of working in the NHS, Local Authority, voluntary or private sector at a senior level.
  • Has an understanding of Personalised Care
  • Has experience managing projects within the Health and Care system
  • Has worked as part of a multidisciplinary team in a healthcare environment
  • Has worked with senior clinical colleagues to improve services
  • Has led projects in complex and challenging environments
  • Has managed and reported on risks and issues
