Implementation of the Strategy will be underpinned by significant new investment in education which will support new, innovative, evidence-based teaching and learning methods across the College.

    A Teaching Fellow is sought to join a team of teaching fellows and contribute to the delivery of our Learning and Teaching (L&T) mission and related innovation and enhancement of L&T practice across the Design Engineering programmes. This diverse role involves teaching, tutoring, course development and support for the MEng in Design Engineering as well as the postgraduate master's degree programmes. The role involves engagement with a range of modules and a wide range of projects, many being student generated.

    Expertise required includes mechanical design and analysis; fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and engineering analysis; industrial design; design and innovation methods; physical prototyping; value proposition; design thinking; computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling; machine elements and failure criteria; finite element analysis (FEA); solid mechanics and materials; computer aided design (CAD) and detailed design; operations within manufacturing environments; module leadership and tutoring; team relationships; management and entry of information for the virtual learning environment (VLE).

    Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent experience in an engineering or design subject area
  • A degree and postgraduate qualification or equivalent in Design Engineering or a relevant discipline, or equivalent design engineering experience
  • Experience

  • Teaching related activities within a higher education institute on product development, CFD, CAD, and Engineering Analysis
  • Producing teaching materials and assessment components
  • Modelling, Prototyping, Design Development, Testing, and Validation
  • Running workshops on prototyping and product development
  • Knowledge

  • Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling
  • Fluid dynamics, mechanics and engineering analysis
  • Machine elements and integrated design engineering
  • Familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess teaching
  • Skills and abilities

  • Industrial design, Computer Aided Design including surface modelling, rendering, 3D fabrication, interaction design, mastery of form and material
  • A demonstrable ability to teach up to MSc level effectively in a variety of teaching situations
