    Job Title-Charge Nurse/Sister Emergency Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward

    Hours per week- hours per week

    Perm/Fixed Term-Permanent

    Salary- £35,392 - £42,618 Per Annum Pro Rata

    Main duties of the job

    Provide clinical leadership and direction to nursing as a role model for all nursing staff within the unit promoting professional practice at all take responsibility for the day to day management of the clinical provide specialist advice to support the assessment, planning and management of patientsThe post holder is expected to act in a manner consistent with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, carrying out his/her duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

    Job responsibilities

  • Ensure patient safety is maintained.
  • To undertake assessment, planning and evaluation of patients
  • To promote a culture of demonstrable best practice and integrated evidence based practice.
  • To provide clinical advice, support and education to professions/ staff and patients.
  • Work collaboratively and co-operatively with clinical colleagues within the Surgical Assessment Unit.
  • To have an understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty and be able to apply to this in clinical practice.
  • To have an understanding of safeguarding, being able to appropriately identify those patients at risk, managing referrals and assist with investigations in line with Trust Policy and Procedure.
  • To provide support and care for the patient and his/her family respecting their need for privacy and dignity.
  • Be professionally responsible for adherence to Trust policies and procedures.
  • Produce written communications which are clear, fluent, concise and easily understood.
  • Carry out nursing procedures and treatments in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Ensure the delivery of evidence-based nursing care in accordance withNMC Code of Professional Conductwithin the clinical care area as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To continue own professional development in line with NMC guidelines and NMC revalidation.
  • Maintain clinical competence of self and others as determined by service need and job descriptions. Tasks to include male catheterisation, ECG, IV administration, Cannulation
  • Ensure that risk assessments are complete as per Trust policy for manual Handling, health & safety and other relevant areas of concern.
  • Ensure that equipment and the environment supports the delivery of high standards of care at all times.
  • To participate and prioritise developments within the Service as part of the Strategic/ business planning.
  • To assist with the management of ward resources in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Ensure information on the ward information system is correct and updated regularly.
  • Undertake staff appraisals and create a learning environment which facilitates learning and professional development.

    Experience and Knowledge

    Essential

  • Professional clinical experience in working within surgical environment.
  • A knowledgeable clinician with the ability to apply evidence based practice.
  • A sound knowledge of professional policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and a commitment to clinical supervision and staff development.
  • Desirable

  • Ability to successfully manage people
  • Experience in participating in service improvement
  • Qualification and Professional Training

    Essential

  • First level degree as registered general nurse or willingness to undertaken
  • Current Professional Registration working as a band 5 or above for minimum of 2 years
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • To have the skills and knowledge to undertake supervision and assessing of staff and patients within scope of practice or willingness to develop.
