    Description

    Social Research Degree Apprenticeship programme

    Verian UK

Are you curious about people's attitudes and behaviours? Do you like the idea of working on interesting topics such as education, crime and justice, homelessness and climate change? Are you looking for a meaningful career that will help you build a variety of skills and capabilities?

If so, then the Verian Social Research Degree Apprenticeship programme could be for you

At Verian, we carry out research for governments, charities and other public sector organisations – helping them understand what people feel, think and do. This supports government priorities and, ultimately, improves people's lives.

    Job summary

As an apprentice social researcher, you will be studying for a degree in social research and putting your learning into practice in the workplace. You will be doing research from the start, supported by a wider project team. That might mean helping to develop a questionnaire, helping organise interviews and focus groups, analysing data and preparing reports.

You will have the opportunity to work for different clients and with a variety of research methods. You will be involved in the social research process from start to finish, from research design and set up to delivery and sharing of results. Our apprenticeship offers the chance to immerse yourself in all areas of our business, with the potential to become a future leader.

Over the course of 4 years, you will study the Level 6 applied social research standard and, on successful completion, will receive an honours degree in applied social research from The University of Kent. You will work closely with academic experts and your fellow apprentices remotely, through weekly online live lectures and seminars, and face-to-face through an annual residential on campus (a great opportunity for in depth learning and socialising). Verian will cover the cost for you to attend in-person teaching when required. You will also have access to one-to-one coaching and guidance from a dedicated course tutor.

You will have extensive support in the workplace too - a dedicated line manager and development plan to support your degree learning. Our programme will build your commercial, communication and project management skills – core skills for any career.

You will be part of a group of 2-4 social research apprentices in Verian, learning together and supporting each other. At the end of the 4-year programme, our apprentices will have the opportunity to apply for a permanent Social Research Executive role.

The start date is yet to be confirmed , but it is likely to be in July or August with the course starting in September .

You will receive a salary of £25,000 per annum, 25 days holiday, a contributory pension and a number of flexible benefits (e.g. gym discounts, retail discounts, opportunity to buy and sell holiday).

    Who are we looking for?

You will likely be a great fit for this role if you are:

    • Curious about how people think and behave
    • Excited to contribute to projects which impact society
    • Organised and able to work to deadlines
    • A team player
    • A good communicator
    • Keen to learn and develop

Our degree apprenticeships webpage has some videos from people who already work at Verian describing what their roles involve. Visit this page .

    Who can apply?

We welcome applications from anyone of any age or experience. You might be just starting out in your career or looking for a change of path.

There are a few requirements we need to mention. You need to have:

    • A minimum of five GCSE (including Maths and English at grade C (4) or above)
    • Gained or expect to gain at least 96 UCAS points under the 2017 tariff point system (e.g., CCC at A Level or equivalent qualifications, not including General Studies). See the UCAS Tariff Calculator .
    • Lived in the UK for at least the previous 3 years before the start of the apprenticeship (Sept 2024)
    • The right to work in the UK (we do not offer sponsorship for this programme)

    Who does Verian work for?

Verian runs important projects like the Crime Survey of England and Wales , interviewing over 30,000 people each year about their experiences as victims of crime. We help government and public bodies communicate their messages well – like helping Transport for London understand which Underground posters are most impactful. Our evaluation of the Tampon Tax Fund assessed how the government allocated the money from tax on sanitary products to projects that improve the lives of disadvantaged women and girls.

Other UK clients include the Department for Education, Cabinet Office, Office for National Statistics and Defra as well as charities such as the Health Foundation and GambleAware. Here are examples of our work; The People and Nature Survey for England ; Britain Barometer , Understanding Society .
