Midwife - Preceptorship Programme (soon to qualify Midwife) - Brighton, United Kingdom - University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
Description
Job overview
An exciting opportunity to join the Preceptorship Programme at UHSussex (Royal Sussex County Hospital) based on the national preceptorship framework. The programme will support you in your transition from newly registered midwife to Band 6, through the consolidation and acquisition of skills and experience.
We are committed to caring for our workforce under the NHS People Promise and can offer flexible working and a team approach to supporting you to develop and grow your career with us. We are keen to ensure that you feel safe and supported throughout your early career and offer an individualised approach to preceptorship.
Main duties of the job
This role is aimed at newly qualified midwives to consolidate their training through a fulfilling preceptorship programme which will equip them to achieve the requirements of a band 6 midwife on completion.
Newly qualified midwives are based in the in-patient hospital setting and rotate between labour ward, post natal ward, antenatal ward and the maternity assessment unit. There is opportunity to work in community areas during the programme and experience cross site working at our other maternity units across the Trust.
The preceptee midwife will work autonomously to gain confidence in their professional accountability when supporting the needs of women, birthing people and their families throughout the pregnancy and birth continuum. The preceptee midwife is supported by the preceptorship lead midwife and maternity education team throughout their preceptorship programme which is based on the National Preceptorship Framework. The preceptee midwife will consolidate and acquire clinical competencies including drug and IV administration, cannulation, perineal suturing and other relevant skills required of a band 6 midwife. The preceptee midwife is expected to maintain midwifery best practice, ensuring high standards of care, referring to other professionals and outside agencies as appropriate.
Working for our organisation
At UHSussex, diversity is our strength, and we want you to feel included to help us always put the Patient First, as shown in our Outstanding for Caring CQC rating. Your uniqueness and experiences will be part of our creative and innovative community where everyone is encouraged to succeed. We have a range of Staff Networks to help break down barriers, and can offer a buddy to help new members settle in. We're proud to be a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and a Veteran Aware Trust.
We treat our patients and staff with the same compassion and empathy we expect for ourselves. We're here for them when they need us, and we go above and beyond to meet their needs. This can be seen in our Wellbeing Programme for staff which is extensive and designed to support you when you need it - because we know that to look after others we must first look after ourselves.
As a university trust and a leader in healthcare research, we value learning, teaching and training so that we can be the best that we can be. From the moment you start with us and throughout your career we will help you to grow and develop. We hope that in choosing UHSussex you are choosing a long and happy career where you will be able to see the difference you make and feel valued for all that you do.
We look forward to receiving your application and the start of your journey with UHSussex.
