    Description

    The Growing Chefs Ontario (GCO) is on a mission to transform how kids and families learn about and build healthy relationships with food. Their belief is that engaging food education programs can spark a healthier, empowered community engaged with its food system.

    Heading up the Food Education Project Chef team at GCO is no small task. You'll be jumping in from May/June 2024 to be a part of this inspiring mission.

    • This role involves coordinating and supporting the delivery and development of all GCO Food Education Programs, from in-person and virtual school/community initiatives to cooking classes for kids/families, adult classes, day camps, and more.
    • You'll also assist in fundraising efforts through catering, events such as outdoor pizza nights, private events, and possibly even The Beet Cafe's hot lunch program.
    • The Lead Food Education Chef's main focus is working directly with children and youth of various backgrounds to create fun and meaningful learning experiences.
    • Responsibilities include program planning, curriculum development, recipe creation, food history research, garden-to-table activities alignment, food photography, participant tracking, and ensuring health and safety protocols.

    Available Position:

    Full-time salaried contract (40 hrs/week)

    Required Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience:

    • Culinary training and 3-5 years industry experience
    • Minimum 5 years experience working with children/youth
    • Agriculture Degree or equivalent gardening/farming experience
    • At least 2 years baking/pastry experience in an industrial setting
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience in team supervision
    • Valid G class drivers license and clean driving record
    • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
    • Ability to work independently or in a team in a fast-paced environment
    • Flexible and adaptable to new projects
    • Available for weekdays, evenings, and weekends
    • Must pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Check
    • Experience with G-Suite
    • Knowledge of wood-fired pizza preparation

    Additional Assets:

    • Front of house foodservice and hospitality experience
    • Education related to food systems/cooking
    • Interest in food photography
    • Ability to lift 50+lbs and stand for long periods
    • Food Handlers Safety Certificate
    • First Aid CPR C+ AED
    • Smart Serve Certificate
