    Head of International Tax - London, United Kingdom - BBC

    THE ROLE

    Reporting to the Group Finance Director, your key responsibilities are as follows.

    Leadership and Growth:

  • Accountable for global corporate tax compliance within BBC Studios and the delivery of high-quality tax support to all commercial business areas.
  • Develop, communicate and deliver a Tax Plan across all relevant lines of business.
  • Develop best-in-class tax processes, ensuring delivery of highest quality product and / or service with effective and timely communication of issues, results, risks and opportunities to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide commercial and financial leadership, guidance, challenge, insight and recommendations to the Senior Leader leadership team of BBC Studios (e.g. Genre Managing Directors) to drive business performance and act as a catalyst for change. This will include sharing industry developments, regulatory requirements and potential impact and opportunities on their area.
  • Support our growth agenda by supporting acquisition and deal negotiations and lead on post-acquisition integration of tax affairs.
  • Embed a culture of continuous improvement of processes and information. Act as a leader for change, encouraging regular review of key processes and collaboration across teams.
  • Adept at managing numerous, diverse senior and executive level stakeholders, often operating under tight timescales and managing numerous competing priorities.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant external stakeholders, authorities, advisors and their representatives, and represent the BBC in a professional manner.
  • Presenting to the BBCS Executives and Commercial Board on the UK tax strategy and key tax issues.
  • People Leadership:

  • Play a key leadership role across the business, role modelling our values and leadership behaviours.
  • Collaborate and contribute to the wider development and leadership of the division (and wider Finance Function), promoting and championing collaboration, creativity and diversity.
  • Provide support, guidance, challenge and indirect line management as appropriate to teams and individuals within the broader Finance function.
  • Continuously identify learning and development opportunities for their team and the broader Finance function and wider business.
  • Controls and compliance:

  • Support and/or represent the BBC on external matters for the relevant Finance function, advising on appropriate lines of enquiry.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Group Tax team to ensure compliance with all frameworks and policies and provide timely and accurate reporting, working closely with wider Finance and Senior Leaders, including providing representation on governing bodies and committees as appropriate.
  • Accountable for risk management across portfolio, including assessment, management and anticipation of potential challenges. Define and implement appropriate mitigation and contingency plans. Escalate concerns to the relevant leadership teams.
  • Specific taxation leadership responsibilities:

  • Lead on tax transaction work supporting M&A activity and other commercial transactions.
  • Provide advice and support to the business on corporate tax matters, including expansion in terms of geography and/or business lines and/or capital funding arrangements.
  • Overseeing corporate tax compliance for non-UK entities.
  • Corporate tax reporting for statutory and management reporting purposes.
  • Manage and execute global tax structuring, reporting and compliance.
  • Corporate tax forecasting and year end planning and activity.
  • Compliance for relevant jurisdictions and regular reporting to BBC Group Tax.
  • Transfer pricing for relevant jurisdictions, including reviewing appropriateness of existing arrangements and leading on updating TP agreements.
  • Identifying opportunities (e.g. R&D), ensuring tax attribute preservation, utilization and maximizing tax efficiency in the value chain.
  • Managing tax risks and processes, including advising on the impact of changes in legislation, and maintaining the tax risk register.
  • Coordinate with BBC Group Tax on dealings with tax enquires from local tax authorities.
  • Embed best practice processes to reduce tax compliance risks.
  • New entity tax registrations
  • Lead on resolving cross-border tax disputes.
  • WHAT DOES IT TAKE?

    Essential

  • Professional accounting qualification: ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, as appropriate.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of global tax requirements and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience of supporting the delivery of effective financial systems and controls within a global tax context.
  • Experience of working with financial accounting systems and the ability to understand, interpret and communicate complex financial data to a range of audiences.
  • Experience of operating at a senior level and / or partnering with external senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of leading, driving and delivering change in complex organizations and finance teams.
  • Prior experience of managing significant budgets and understanding key financial drivers.
  • Experience of devising new ways of working to streamline operations.
  • Desirable

  • Good knowledge of the media sector and relevant in-depth knowledge of current industry trends, an understanding of the end-to-end production and distribution cycle.
  • Prior experience of holding senior Finance leadership positions in the media sector (or equivalent).
  • Experience of M&A transactions and effectively integrating new businesses into a wider corporate structure.
  • Knowledge of and experience in digital / social media content production, distribution and or brand extension.

    Salary: Up to £122,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

    The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
