    Job summary

    Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint Two full time Consultant Psychiatrist ( in CAMHS Learning Disabilities to work within its Mental Health Services.

    The Mental Health Services [MHS] division within BWC is comprised of Forward Thinking Birmingham (FTB), which is a unique, innovative community and inpatient mental health service delivering a pathway of care for 0-25 year olds. The service is led by Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust and it is the first of its kind nationally. Bringing together the expertise and commitment of Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust (BWC), the Priory Group and The Children's Society, FTB offers a wide range of mental health support options tailored to the needs of the young people, young adults and families it cares for and supports.

    You will be qualified with full registration with GMC or within six months of obtaining specialist registration. Experience of working within an MDT is essential. You will have Approved Clinician status and S12 approval or be willing to achieve these within three months of appointment.

    Main duties of the job

    The post will be involved in direct assessment and management of the mental health of children and young people with Intellectual disabilities. The FTB CAMHS-LD service is a well-established service with a national reputation and has well developed multidisciplinary working practices with a range of clinicians across Nursing, Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy and Support Work. Additionally, we have very good relationships with Special Schools, Disabled Children's Social Care and Disabled Children's Care Homes. A significant number of clinical contacts will take place in special school clinics.

    The successful applicant will be employed by Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust. As well as working within the ground-breaking FTB service, there are a number of other benefits including a strong commitment to continuous professional development.

    FTB has links with Institute of Mental Health, University of Birmingham and supports consultants with interest in research and medical education. The service has a number of specialist services under its umbrella, which offers candidates excellent opportunity to diversify their skills and be part of a vibrant peer group.

    Depending on the interests of the post-holder there are excellent opportunities to be involved in management, with possibility of taking up additional formal medical management and leadership roles as well as service development and post-graduate teaching.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification
  • CCT holder (or equivalent)or within 6 months of becoming eligible for CCT) in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and/or Intellectual Disability Psychiatry
  • Current full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment).
  • GMC Licence to practice
  • MRCPsych (or equivalent)
  • Approval (or eligible for approval) under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act.
  • Desirable

  • Higher degree or other qualification in research methodology
  • Qualification or previous training in leadership
  • Qualification and/or experience in providing training for doctors.
  • Knowledge/Experience

    Essential

  • Provision of high quality mental services, as trainee or consultant.
  • Knowledge about the NHS and understanding the evidence base underpinning the delivery of high quality services.
  • Ability to manage, improve or to support the clinical operations of the service
  • Understanding of the importance of excellent team working relationships and ability to put this into practice.
  • Knowledge about mental health policy with ability to think strategically and manage change.
  • Knowledge of appropriate medical, pharmacological and psychological treatments.
  • Knowledge/experience of clinical governance
  • Knowledge & experience of clinical audit.
  • Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a clinical leadership role with positive relationships with team members.
  • Previous experience of specialist mental health provision, especially CAMHS, Learning Disability or CAMHS-Learning Disability services
